Spanish  government website update on post-Dec 31 visas for UK citizens.A  non-lucrative visa (retired persons, etc.) has a non-refundable  application fee of £516 per person. It also requires a secure annual  income of circa €26,000 per person or €32,000 per couple. In addition,  fully comprehensive health insurance is mandatory. Visas for work  require proficiency in Spanish and a fee of £409.  A visa to start a  business involves an application fee of £966 per person. All of these  visa must be applied for from within the UK, and granted before travel. http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LONDRES/en/Consulado/Pages/Visas.aspx?fbclid=IwAR0xMqhqHmEKBIff9XqYT9E6SLp-1cfG5WQqDfxajoVj2zCNqoLX8WqmZt0

Thats in line with the hoop that all non-Eu people have had to jump through for some years

The health insurance has to be fully paid for 12 months in advance and has to be without co-payment so its the most expensive.

Additionally full finger printed police checks, and medical certificates attesting to freedom from a whole range of diseases is required. Additionally a certificate of sanity is required.

Crazy aye?

Spain can for the first time not have to accept people without the necessary finances to be an asset rather than a burden. Freedom of movement has snags as well as benefits, and they cannot keep out undesirables from within the EU but control the rest.

Peter C, Thats fine, but i would have thought anybody to be crazy to go to the likes of Spain and live there if they cant support themselves finacially.

Add the latest nonsense to the forthcoming stealth taxes Spain is likely to introduce and they will eventually beg Brits back. Spain is skint and they do not raise enough revenue to support the country, that's why their 6 biggest companies are all registered around the world and not in Spain.

Again added to the fact that people who moved here and no longer work, who's only income is pension schemes that they invested in down the years are again being taxed on their pensions, and also a percentage of what they have in their bank accounts.

Apart from the obvious, not a lot to look forward to in moving to Spain.

What a lovely way to get rid of the Brits from here in Spain.Do the spanish just love to have an easy laid back life with zero income from easy going Brits. We are a shambles for what we have done but the spanish government have been even worse with this load of crap legislation. No one in their right mind would buy here on those terms.

Gaza, thats the point i was trying to make. Going forward IMO Brits will rent long term ( up to 6 months ) and obtain the required visa that allows you to stay for 6 months continious as opposed to 3 months.

Why would after working all your life and paying tax, would you want to pay more tax on savings that have already been taxed.

Again IMO Spain will eventually come to their senses and realise that local economies are supported and rely on Expats in their region for income, although this will take a long time.

Maybe I’ve missed something but we dont pay tax on savings...possibly on the interest which is minimal but overall paying a bit extra tax is nothing compared to savings in other areas....we pay less per year in ‘council tax equivalent’ than we paid per month in UK!
