come to the friendly coffee morning Mondays 11:00 at the Garden Bar..talk to people who live here and find out everything you need to know!!
Look at the various facebook groups for Los Alcazares for an idea of whats happening in the area…
Decide if you want to be near the beach or inland and what sort of lifestyle you have in mind…
Its a wonderful area to live…good luck!

Hi. Thanks for that. We would look a little bit inland but will have our own car from France. Would definitely look to be busy and dip into social events. This is our first trip for a look see, so it's all open. We will explore places with a pretty town centre, Spanish communities, near enough amenities. It's getting exciting even if we're not quite retired. Thank you for your reply.

If your looking for pretty white washed villages, you won’t find those near Los Alcazares or for that matter anywhere on the Costa Blanca. Northern Costa Blanca towards Javea and Altea is much greener and prettier. For white washed pueblos, if that’s what your looking for, try Andalusia.

Hi. We aren't looking for whitewashed houses just pretty town squares and good amenities. At the tip of the Costa blanca we are planning on driving west and also more inland. But thanks for replying

A day out in Cartagena highly recommended. Small, narrow streets, beautiful architecture and small shops to browse. A boat round the fiord is highly recommended, the Spanish navel sector, the submarine pens and repair yard, th fishing docks, commercial docks and the possibility of a cruise liner. The hills around are scattered with gun posts, forts etc all to secure the city. There are many Roman remains throughout the city and museums a plenty, including one dedicated to the history of submarines. The inventor of the modern submarine was from Cartagena.

these are v good helpful posts I think From what you've said I think you might like Sucina. It's about 20 mins from the Mar Menor. Traditional small town with good amenities and some ex pat's. Very good road to it as well. A nice size if you want amenities but not a bustling busy place & it's within easy reach of bigger amenity areas.
San Pedro del Pinatar is another good option, open all year round. Tourists there are mostly Spanish and there are ex pat's too although not as many as say San Javier or Los Alcazares. It's a bigger town than Sucina, has a lovely promenade, cycle ways, a living town with a nice town square and while some hostelarias close in winter others don't. Excellent shopping facilities. It is close to Torrevieja but not nearly as built up but I mention it as it has many more options and an easy drive from both Sucina and San Pedro.
In the same area there are plenty of other inland towns with very good access roads and, if course, the whole Costa is well serviced with both Murcia International & Alicante airports. There is a very good rail network too..
I'd say cost of life living is around a third cheaper overall than Ireland where I'm from, maybe a bit better if you're from the UK. Crime is low like most places outside the main bug cities but a bit of handbag snatching and opportunistic thieving goes on, just he prudent. No serious crime that I know of.
Best of luck luck with your search. If you have any questions you can private message me.
Regards Ann
