Hi all

We have been looking at different Golf resorts in the Murcia and Costa Blanca area to buy a property, we found a villa on Mar Menor Golf resort we really like, but when we looked a little closer on the resort - we found a lot of bad reviews of the Hotel, and the staff, quality and pool area, closed restaurants and so,  from the last year and last months, we also read some pretty bad reviews of the golf course - lack of maintenance, missing sand i bunkers and bad maintenance around greens and fairway  - Some also write that the course is overcrowded, staff is not very serviceminded and so.

We want to hear if this is a correct picture of the resort right now and do you believe this will improve also in the Hotel, in some of the golf sites they rate Mar Menor not even as a top 10 course in Murcia region - before we invest in a property it would be good to know if the resort are getting back as a top resort - or if you have any recommendations to other resorts to buy in ?

Hi Gert,

We bought a holiday home on Mar Menor 1 just under 5 years ago and liked it so much here when we retired we sold up in the UK and moved here in September last year. We have since got our residencias etc and are enjoying life very much here. Properties, certainly on MM1, continue to sell well, always a good sign, and furthermore people continue to invest significant sums in renovating and improving them/updating them as some are approaching around 20 years old now. During the early days of covid the condition of the golf course here did deteriorate (as did others in the area too) but they carried out work recently and it is much improved, but I would say not back fully to how it was pre-covid.

Over the last couple of months it has been very busy, which is great news for the resort income stream and this in now the season. However, there are loads of other golf courses around here you can play on but during the high season they do get busy. The hotel did shut during covid, as would be expected, but the bars are back open and have been busy with golfers and visitors. Our daughter and her partner came over a couple of months ago and stayed a night in the hotel and they really enjoyed it.

We are biased and love this resort, but there are others that are worth a look too, which we did, but for us the Mar Menor is ideal and we used the lockdown to update our home here.

We miss our grown up children back in the UK but they are now starting to visit again and will (hopefully....) be out for Christmas, but apart from that we are delighted we moved here.

We would do it all again without hesitation, but I would encourage you to take your time and do your homework. To answer your question, we have seen no deterioration in the MM housing market, which indeed remains very buoyant, and we believe that with the recent increase in activity in the hotel and golf areas the resort will soon be back to pre-covid levels.

Having visited most of the golf resorts around here, we believe the Mar Menor is up there and you could do alot worse. At the end of the day it depends what your priorities are and what you want (Golf Resorts, and indeed Spain are not for everyone).

Good luck and hope to see you here soon!!!

If you want any more info PM me

Cheers Jon
