Hi everyone,

My wife and I are about to buy a holiday home on the Mar Menor Golf resort.
The home is in need of some upgrading and is unfurnished . Can anyone please recommend someone for replacement bathrooms, kitchen etc and also for installation of a pool.

Also  Anywhere nearby to buy home furnishings.

I would also like to buy a small car if anyone can recommend a reliable garage nearby.

Many thanks for any ideas.

Paul and Maria

Hi Paul, not teaching you to suck eggs or anything but I hope you have been told about monthly fees on Mar Menor golf .I dont know what they are now but do know that a few years ago they were eye wateringly expensive, this was one of the reasons I chose not to live on a golf resort. The agents at the time would never mention the fees ,the dodgy ones anyway but do ask if you werent aware and make sure your sat down lol, There are a couple of second hand furniture places in Los Alcazares and second hand cars in Spain are expensive also just be careful with what you buy  a friend bought a 4x4 and 3months later the engine went . A good garage is Andys cars in Torre Pacheco. good luck Bob.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your reply.

Thanks for the warning, but, I am aware of the monthly charges at Mar Menor, we factored that into our purchase.

I’ll give Andys cars a look, but have noticed that cars are expensive out there.

I’ve just bought a new car here in England I’m not sure if I fancy driving down though.

Many thanks

Paul

Just not true …….24hr security, use of 14 pools, beautiful gardens and fountains and a safe and secure place to live for less than our council tax in UK!

For original poster there are lots of furniture shops locally…along the N332 in San Javier every other block has a furniture shop. Chino bazaars sell everything….Carsin Spain is just up the road for second hand cars…Andy and Amanda have Your Car Mar Menor in Torre Pacheco but higher end cars

Hi Paul, If you factored the cost in then thats fine I just didnt want you to get a shock as some have in the past. The drive down I used to do all the time before I lived here full time .I did the Cherbourg Peninsula all the way down ,through France ,stopping overnight in Bordeaux and then the remainder following day,it is a long haul though .I found the better way was to get the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao and then drive to our home ,which then was in Balsicas so not far from Mar menor and that is a nice drive we have dogs so it was a neccesity to come via ferry..It sounds too late for you now but there is a company in Basingstoke that has foreign registered cars on its books and we bought a Spanish registered Renault from them. When we came to sell it at a dealership we were given more in P/X than we paid  .I think it was called Left Hand Drive Cars (strangely enough lol) Luckily we got in on TIE and Spanish driving licences before the rules changed so were lucky . If you are bringing a UK car over then there are costs for that too. The lights have to be changed ,Spanish plates and transfer tax which is why its better to source a Left hand drive .Good luck with your move ,Bob.

Hi Crissy, well thats not too bad really. I was told by a heating engineer about 9  years ago that he had to pay 400 +  a month .Mind you it could have been BS.but thats why I warned them .I dont live on an urbanisation or golf course  so I have to take care of my own security so I see your point at that price ( having dogs is a blessing though as no one can get near my place without them kicking off ) Enjoy the rest of your weekend ,Bob.
