You will not regret it Mar Menor Golf is a great place to live, There is an owners forum on Facebook full of info and lots of things to buy and sell!!

Hi Chrissy,

Thanks for your reply.

I will take a look at your suggestions.

I must say that we were taken with the friendliness of everyone we met while we were at the Mar Menor golf resort and it’s what swayed our decision to buy there.

Kind regards

Paul

Hi Paul, If you factored the cost in then thats fine I just didnt want you to get a shock as some have in the past. The drive down I used to do all the time before I lived here full time .I did the Cherbourg Peninsula all the way down ,through France ,stopping overnight in Bordeaux and then the r...

...emainder following day,it is a long haul though .I found the better way was to get the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao and then drive to our home ,which then was in Balsicas so not far from Mar menor and that is a nice drive we have dogs so it was a neccesity to come via ferry..It sounds too late for you now but there is a company in Basingstoke that has foreign registered cars on its books and we bought a Spanish registered Renault from them. When we came to sell it at a dealership we were given more in P/X than we paid  .I think it was called Left Hand Drive Cars (strangely enough lol) Luckily we got in on TIE and Spanish driving licences before the rules changed so were lucky . If you are bringing a UK car over then there are costs for that too. The lights have to be changed ,Spanish plates and transfer tax which is why its better to source a Left hand drive .Good luck with your move ,Bob.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for that info.

We are not going to live there, just buying a holiday home for us and the kids and hope to spend extended periods there.

It’s what made me question about driving down, because if it’s not too bad we might give it a go and not bother with having a car sitting unused for most of the year.

We have dogs as well, so would need to consider them on any journey. We live right near the channel tunnel, so that would probably be our preferred method of crossing.

Regards

Paul

  • Hi Paul ,ok. I just had to apologise to Crissy as the golf course I got mistaken with. I thought it was the La manga Club" thats the one with high fees . Yes I agree that channel tunnel is probably your best bet as it takes a while to get from Folkestone area to Portsmouth especially on the coast road and the dogs are not on the train very long .We used to get the dog ferrry from Pompey but you have to book in advance as it is popular, just for future reference there are  (or was) two ferries that took animals ,one had kennels where you left the dogs but could go back and see them quite often and the other they could come in the cabin with you .They both had walking areas and clean up facilities. The only time I went on the tunnel was when I used to truck drive around Europe pre retirement days. Good luck and stay safe ,Bob.

You can’t go far wrong for beds and furniture with Diane & Fred at The Furniture Store which is very close to the resort.

https://www.thefurniturestore.eu/

They offer a very personal, professional service.

Lynn
