Hi ,

I have a holiday home near to Los Alcazares, due to the lockdown on visitors to spain I wondered whether the standing charges for utilities have been "paused"?

I haven't contacted the authorities- Hydogena, Ibedrola,  but wondered if there was any updates within forum users before doing so?

Thanks

Yeah, you wish! They sent me that will be one average charge, no duel tariff and just received the bill by email for water and electricity,  OK but in a bit higher end than usual...

Probably can't send someone to check the meter.

Hi Deejon,

We have a holiday home in Lo Pagan and the same thought went through my mind.

I contacted Iberdrola almost two weeks ago to ask if they would consider temporarily remove the standing charges - as yet they have not replied therefore I think we know the answer!

If you manage to get anywhere with Iberdrola I would be grateful to know and then I'll bother them again.

Cheers.

I cant believe people are thinking this could happen. I,m a non resident , using my property here in spain for 2x90days a year, so would it be feasible to ask for the other days I,m not here to have no standing charges?

I think NOT. I also pay a years charges on Uk home living same length of time. Only way of facilitating this would be to disconnect and chances are connection fees could be more than paying all year . Providers still need to give you access all year round to their services. Unbelievable, just wishful thinking.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Deejon,

After thinking Iberdrola were ignoring me I received a reply a few minutes ago regarding suspending standing charges etc.

The only way they will do it is by cancelling the contract and removing the smart meter. When we want the electricity reconnecting there will be a charge (not specified) for re-installing the meter and re-starting the contract.

I'm not going to go so far as cancelling the contract myself - when I get back to Spain I want to be straight on the beach with no messing about waiting for my electric to come back on!

Hope this helps.

Kevin.

Look at the Brita on-tap filter, and/or Brita jugs for water for cooking & hot drinks. We lived in the Axarquia (east of malaga) for many years and the cal was horrendous - I got used to unscrewing the hoses to the washer & dishwasher and clearing out the stalactites that were growing in there. Our supply was via a deposit tank so we could fit an online filter system and that saved us replacing the water heater ebery couple of years!

There is nothing like that level of cal up here, so the Calgon-type treatments, used every few months as necessary should do the trick. We never drink the tap water - bottled stuff is so cheap and too many friends had operations for kidney stones or gallstones from drinking the rubbish out of the taps.

 Yes will do Kevin.

I have considered asking Iberdola to reduce the supply from 3.6  to 2.2 as I think that this would reduce the standing charges

Let you know if it does

Kevin 329, We don't have a smart meter but a reconnection charge ????? cost - that is an unknown entity. !!!!

I am considering reducing my power supply from 3.6 to 2.2 -this may reduce the standing charges -until we can get over to Spain once more.

Let you know more
