Hi all  just read on Facebook that sabadell will no longer be offering free banking and that the cost will be €5 per month wefJan. I know it doesn't sound alot but it's €60:per year. Any recommendations please

I think Santander do a basic account but even that costs 3 euro per month.

Some banks offer free banking if you pay in around 700 euro each month.

Thank you. That's why we chose sabadell as the expansion account was free if you pay in €750 but will change in January to €5 pm

Sadly it looks like the days of totally free banking in Spain are over. We have always been with Cajamar - barring a disastrous few months with BBVA before we learnt better! - and it was free with no commitment. Over the years they have added conditions like regular payments in, using their house insurance, joining the society and so on. It is essential to keep an eye on how many times you use a debit card too - too few and they slap you 15E a quarter charge.

I was in Sabadell yesterday. We too have the expansion account. Yes it's true: Beginning March? 2020 there will be a monthly €5 charge UNLESS you have another service attached to the Expansion account with them. We have had our home owners Insurance with them for the past 3 years so I pointed that out. We're off the hook because of that.

Best wishes

Non residents pay an awful lot more than 60 per annum for the privilege of leaving money with them!

We have an Experiencia account with Sabadell which is free. You have to pay in a pension payment monthly. It doesn’t have to be a certain  amount but has to be a pension. We pay in our smallest one. Don’t know if this will be charging next year too so will need to check.

Yes, with the crisis everything changed a lot.

Did you try Online Banks / Debit Cards?

We recommend Bnext, it is totally free, with a debit card that you can use for withdrawals with no commissions (in Spain and abroad), and to pay also without commission. And some other advantages!

With this link, you will receive 5€ as a gift when you activate your debit card (and I also will receive another 5€). Win-win situation! ;)
