Forum regulars will know of my opinion on car rental companies in Spain, and Goldcar is on my black list. I returned back to the UK last week and I'm posting my latest experience of car hire. Hopefully someone might find it useful.
My preferred company had no cars available so I did my usual search on DoYouSpain and booked a medium size car with Rentacar on a full/full basis. When the receipt was emailed it was actually a contract with InteRent. I hadn't booked with either of these companies before, so I didn't know what to expect. Interent are 'on airport' at Alicante so I went to their office in arrivals only to find it closed with a note on the shutter to go to Goldcar at the other end of the hall. Shock horror....Goldcar again!
The office had the InteRent stickers and when I asked I was told they had bought out both companies, so I feared the worse. However, the assistant was extremely helpful as was the chap I got to check over the car with me. I allowed them to block my card as is usual, photographed the car and drove off. I always allow plenty of time when returning so I parked up, photographed the car once more and headed to the office and asked for someone to check the car with me. I was told I would have to wait for that or hand the keys over and sign the car off, I said I would wait. Ten minutes later a girl came over, checked the car with me and signed it off electronically. I asked her to sign my check in paper which she did, and stamped it as no damage, tank full, job done!
OK the car wasn't new, but it was very good and I'm fussy. So I speak as I find and would book with them again. That car cost me a grand total of 14.07€ for 10 days hire!
