Hi Richard,
I've been living in Murcia for 35 years and have explored the Costa Cálida extensively, from San Pedro del Pinatar to Águilas. While your focus is on Mazarrón or La Manga, I’d love to throw in a little hidden gem for consideration—Pinar de Campoverde. It’s technically in Alicante province but right next to San Pedro del Pinatar. A beautiful residential area set in a pine forest, away from the tourist crowds but still close to the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada and El Mojón. Plus, the Río Seco offers great hiking trails, and the flat terrain makes it ideal for cycling.
Now, if it really comes down to Mazarrón vs. La Manga, my personal pick would be Mazarrón. It still has some stunning, relatively untouched beaches like Parazuelos and Puntas de Calnegre (technically part of Lorca, but close enough!). If you’re looking for more of a party scene, though, La Manga would probably be the better choice.
Either way, both have their charm, and it depends on what you're looking for in a holiday home. Hope this helps, and happy house hunting!
Cheers,Oliver

HI Richard
Like Oliver said, it depends what you like. On the hunt for a holiday home I spent a short stay in La Manga in October a few years ago. The weather was great but the place was deserted and resembled a ghost town. As I would be spending low seasons in my potential holiday home, the lack of life didn't appeal to me. I understand it buzzes in the Summer with a lot of nightlife.
I have now recently bought a holiday home close to Mazarron and am still a newbie in the area. Have just come back from spending a short stay in January. The weather was fab and the Port was busy with families and visitors. I also visited end of August and it was packed but more of a bar/restaurant vibe to it rather than clubs. It is quieter in general and may not appeal to younger people.
Maybe visit both areas during the period of time you expect to holiday there and see what appeals.
Good luck with your search

Hi - can anyone recommend a good company to transport my dog from Essex to Los Alcázares and then back around 5-6 weeks later. I do not want her to fly as she is 10 years old now. We did drive once and got boat to Santander but never again so we will fly ourselves. Thank you

Hello . 2 things about Mazarron assume you mean Puerto Mazarron, winter is deserted. Summer months absolutely rammed with difficulty getting in restaurants etc. beach’s are lovely and Bolnuevo is worth walking too. Plenty of Supermarkets around. I’m stating the obvious here but it is a Spanish town not really a resort.. not much of a public bus service and taxis are hit and miss. All based on personal experience.
