Big increase in bank charges! 14.50 pcm plus other transaction fees. This is with Bankia . Are all the banks putting up their charges like this ? If you multiply by 12 it adds up.

Yes most if not all are.

If you search for Banking at the top of this page there is lots of info re free banking.

You should be aware that you do NOT need a Spanish bank account despite what the Spanish tell you.

A lot of us are now using the likes of Transferwise or Starling & their euro account.

I got fed up with the excessive charges and my ex bank caiaxa went up 1st October I think same as the rest. I too have a transferwise account which gives me a UK acct number and sort code but also a, euro account which gives a Belgium IBAN number, The only problem that gave was at least one of the service bills (think is was Aqualia) would not accept a non Spanish IBAN number. I have therefore also opened an N26 account which gives you a debit card and charges nothing but it has a Spanish IBAN number so all good now and no charges

Not standing orders, direct debits they are completely different things.

The banks in Spain do not have a DD switching service like the UK banks do.

Well not as far as I know.

@ smileygeorgey

Aqualia WILL accept a  non Spanish IBAN number.

I have been paying my Aqualia bill using my Transferwise BE IBAN code for nearly a year now.

If you keep over €10,000 in the bank I think the charges are a lot less. For that amount they should pay me. !

Can't see that it matters how or where they get the money from as long as they get.

Funny lot the Spanish sometimes.
