Hello all, we are looking to buy a property in or around Puerto de Mazarron, having returned disappointed from Almeria which we liked but have been put off by the lack of a public transport infrastructure.

Can anyone let us know if the area of PdeM has a good transport system not just getting to and from corvera airport but to neighbouring towns and villages (there was close to nothing in Almeria)

Also whether the transport is seasonal i.e. Good in summer but unavailable off season.

Would be very grateful for any assistance, thank you.

Little to no public transport

Very Similar to Almeria and everywhere else not built up as a tourist hot spot Benidorm Alicante etc have transport. But few smaller areas seem to offer muc h.
Without a vehicle you are paralysed.

Sorry to be negative. But that’s how it appears to be.

Quite few bus services from or in to Puerto de Mazzaron, still not as much as you would like, bus time table was published in this forum. Maybe try to use the search service.

I've never used the buses as I always have a car, but I do notice quite a lot of buses at the Port, local and long distance coaches at the bus station. There are also several bus stops around the town. They do publish bus timetables and they are also at the bus station. Not all the locals have cars, and they seem to manage very well at the Port. Good luck with your search

Thank you for your reply, I did think there must be some form of public bus service for the locals    I expect it might be somewhat seasonal though. At least it seems it does exist which is encouraging. Do you live in Puerto Mazarron? If so do you have any recommendations for areas to consider we will be coming over in the next few weeks, thank you.

Little or no public transport isn’t really an accurate assessment.

I don’t have a car in PdM and have relied very successfully on buses to get to and from both Corvera and Alicante airport, for general travelling around and day trips.

For a small town, PdM has reasonably good public transport. Perhaps not as regular as one would like. But it’s perfectly serviceable. (PdM does have the merit of being a fully functioning town in its own right and not just a tourist resort.) There is some seasonality but it runs all year round.

Buses to Mazarron Town and Bolnuevo are quite frequent. (Although don’t run very late.) And they will take you to Camposol or El Alamillo.

Murcia and Cartagena are very easy to day trip by bus, and tickets are cheap. Just about an hour. (From Murcia you can then get to Alicante airport.) The new twice daily Corvera bus is handy but more expensive.

There are daily routes to Lorca and Totana too. Although not that frequent. And there are even buses to Madrid twice a week iirc running from the bus station.

This says 2017 but it hasn’t changed as of December last year. But it is worth checking at the bus station In PdM. And watch out for festivals which turn up to of nowhere!

Thanks very much this info is really helpful as well as encouraging that life in Pdm doesn't rely entirely on always having a car. I will ask,  if you don't mind the same as I asked rma44. Do you have any recommendations of areas to look at specifically? I'm thinking in both PDM and Mazarron, thank you

Yes I agree with RossTrevor, the Port is quite well served by buses.

It does, of course, rest on what you want. Mazarron itself is a cheerful little town and lively too.

The port is, obviously, by the sea and the Paseo is a charming spot all year round. It’s never shut off entirely. Places are open all year round. (They seem to take it in turns to have time off in winter.) So I’d choose the port because I like to be by the water.

I personally wouldn’t be without a pool, so only having a flat, an urbanisation is perfect for us (everyone has preferences!). In July and August it gets very hot. Our block has a communal one and it is very well kept. In Bahía there are several blocks to look at if that’s what you want. But there are houses too down that way too from duplexes to villas. I’m not sure I’d look too far up the hill past La Cumbre towards the new Centro Commercial (Aldi etc). But that’s a personal preference. There are several a well kept blocks up above the Mercadillo.

The port is transformed in July and August. Into a bustling resort frequented mostly by Spanish. It’s fantastic and vibrant. But the town of the port can get a bit stifling in the heat. Bahia isn’t so densely built. El Alamillo is nice but obviously a bit further out. Bolnuevo is charming but very quiet in winter.
