I suggest that you take a look at the Renfe website as there are far too many trains and destinations to list on here.

I think that your closest train station would be Cartagena, which has a cheap regular service that runs between Cartagena and Murcia city, where you can change trains to travel directly to places such as Madrid and Alicante on the fast Ave train as well as the slower intercity trains than run along to coast to Alicante and inland to Albacete. The train line that used to run from Águilas to Murcia closed a few months ago in order to lay new track for the forthcoming high-speed " Corredor Mediterraneo" line that will run from Gerona/Barcelona and all the way along the southern coastline to Málaga and Algeciras. The works are apparently running later than planned but are slowly advancing along the coast. Here's a map of what it should look like one day!

Hi there,

The rail lines in Murcia are currently undergoing works so there aren't any trains running from Totana or Lorca at the moment.

Nearest stations are Murcia San Carmen and Cartagena. You can find the intercity trains on the Renfe website but there really local trains that don't show on there. From Murcia you can now get the new high speed train to Madrid... also etc and onwards to Valencia and Barcelona. Cartagena is on a slow line and you'll likely end up going via Murcia anyway!

There are some cost of living measures that make train travel free atm on some routes (it's aimed at commuters but its available to all via the Renfe app and you'll need to pay a modest deposit.)

Murcia railway station sadly isn't close to Murcia bus station.

Ross.

I think the op is referring to the small train that runs along the road taking passengers on a basic sightseeing tour by the beach  🙂
