We are a married couple in our 50s non smokers.  We have visited PDM a couple a number of times we love it. We plan to move Puerto De Mazzaron full time in the next 5 years. We both work full time in England, My husband is a General manager of a lifting hire company. I work within  in the caring industry if we decided to move to Mazzaron earlier maybe 2021 /22 what are the Job opportunities like ? We wouldn't want anything to heavy. We are not ready to retire fully as yet is there a potential niech  in the market in starting a very small buisness just to keep us interested ? This will help to pay our way. We will initially rent until we find the right place to buy. Our children are making there own way now. We would like to find a little something for ourselves in the sunshine😎  We would be very interested in anything that may be available

Many  thanks

Do either of you speak Spanish ?

Massive unemployment here before corona.

Going self employed a huge expense also.

Sorry to be negative/ realistic but unless you have a income from Uk you will struggle

Hi there

We dont take this has being negative, it's a learning curve for us. We do not speak Spanish We do have the capacity to take care of ourselves financially  We are on the road of retirement but just not ready you dont get the answers if you dont ask the questions.

Thankyou for your reply the Corona virus has been terrible I think it has made people reavaluate their life

Stay safe

If you're looking for work that would just keep you going until your pensions kick in, or to top up your pensions, then there are opportunities for people who are prepared to work hard and keep trying - albeit in jobs that don't pay particularly well and/or are part of the 'gig' economy.

As I assume you know, there is a large number of retired & aging British ex-pats throughout Murcia (many of which contribute on this forum!); and many of whom prefer to do business with Brits / English-speakers where possible. So there is demand for swimming pool maintenance, gardening, rental property maintenance / cleaning / key-holding, handyman-type jobs, hairdressers, taxi drivers, etc. There have also been posts on this forum in the past few months looking for carers.

There are no easy opportunities (and there was a really good post on here recently referencing an article describing people who had been chancers & failures in the UK, thinking there is an easy life in Spain - and, being clear, there isn't); but there are opportunities for those prepared to work...

Don't give up on dream, just do as much research as possible on how to make it work for you!

Hope this helps!

Sorry, I meant more for you to work for yourselves in the activities mentioned, rather than be employed by someone.

If you have a look in the Recommended Tradesmen section on this forum, there are regularly residents asking for recoemmendations for different jobs that need doing; you could leaflet the areas in which you are looking to work; and 'word of mouth' is the best way to get work.
