Hi all

A friend and I have a holiday home in Blanca but I haven't really noticed any other users on this forum from any of the seven towns that make up the beautiful Ricote Valley. It is just us?! I'm not even sure if we're technically part of the Costa Calida but this is the only forum I've been able to find for the general area at all.

No specific questions at the moment - the second round of renovations on our house will start shortly and we're due to come out mid-July but I'm sure we'll have questions in the future (and will be looking to buy furniture etc).

Would just be good to say hi to anyone in the surrounding area!

Hi Emma

My husband and I also have a holiday home in Blanca and yes you are right, this is the only forum I found for the general area but haven’t read any posts in the past from anyone that lives in the Ricote Valley.

We have been out there a  few times (long weekends) over the last 9 months since purchasing our property and as yet we have only met one English couple.  We aren’t worried about this as we do like the whole Spanish feel.

Hi Patricia

Thanks for responding. We love the fact that the area is almost exclusively Spanish too - that was one of the reasons we chose it. Just thought it might be handy to find a few people in the area to swap tradespeople recommendations and the like. At the moment, the company we bought through are handling renovations but when we've tried searching forums for recommendations in the past, we've only received responses from too far afield. It seems that most tradespeople won't travel far for work!

We're really looking forward to our next trip. Even though we've owned the place for nearly two years, we've only been able to stay there since March because it took so long to get the water reconnected!

Hope you get some more weekends out there over the summer.

Emma

Hi Emma,

We also tried finding tradesmen but to no avail. We had the same problem, too far to travel and believe  it or not, a couple didn’t even know where Blanca was!!

So now we tend to email the estate agent we bought through with any queries on works that we need done. They get us quotes and if we’re happy with the price they organize for the works to get done. They seem to know everyone lol.

We fly out again tomorrow for 8 days this time to actually enjoy our holiday home 😉

I hope you get all your renovations done soon.

Could I ask exactly where your place is? Ours is just outside the far end of town on the way to Abaran.

Pat

Hi Pat

I think we might be fairly close! Our place is in Tollos, across the river from the main part of town and up the hill on Carretera Abarán (the RM-B17 on maps)!

That's how our renovations go too. I suspect we're with the same agent!

Hope you have a fun trip. We're keeping our fingers tightly crossed that our latest work is done before we get out there in a month's time.

Hi Emma,

There is only one agent that covers the Ricote Valley so yes we most definitely are 😁

We are on the town side on the RM514 Huerta del Arriba, so fairly close.

Thank you and good luck. I too will keep my 🤞🏼.

Pat

Aha! We can probably see across the river to your little bit from our roof terrace!

Hi Emma

We've got a small town house in Blanca too. Love it there but you do need to know Spanish really or you find it difficult when you need to arrange for services and deliveries etc  i find. It's a beautiful area but seems little known

Hello!!

Fortunately my Spanish is pretty passable because I lived in Madrid for 18 months. The Murcian accent and dialect has caused me a few headaches though!! But the fact that the area is so wonderfully Spanish is definitely one of the things we love about it.

It does seem to be little-known though, you’re right. Maybe because it’s not on the coast.

Hi again Blanca people!

Just wondering if there are any car boot sale type things in the area. We’re heading over in a fortnight and will be scouting around for cheap second-hand furniture and other bits and bobs.

Any info gratefully received!

Emma
