Advice please

we are two early retirees who are looking to apply for residencia after having moved to Ricote earlier this year.

We plan to take up Convenio Especial but apparently this is not available until you have been a resident for a year. As you need to show health cover to apply for the residencia in the first place and this we do not have, having exhausted our cover from the UK.

If anyone has a way around what seems to be a catch 22 situation I would be grateful. The only way I can see is to buy into full health cover for a year and then drop it in favour of the Convenio especial, but I cant believe that this is the only solution

thanks

where do you get this info ? this was discussed before, some people cannot get health cover, therefore 1 years padron is sufficient,

Padron is only a register of people in an area but you must have healthcare at the moment in order to apply for residencia eithervthrough S1 as a uk state pensioner, or through wotk if youre in employment or with private healthcare....this is currently changing as universal healthcare should be available. See CAB Spain for information

This is the list of documentaion necessary......as a screenshot....

Purchasing public health insurance

If you are not covered for state-run healthcare through any other means, the Spanish regional health authorities offer a special pay-in scheme (convenio especial). This is a public health insurance scheme available nation-wide where you pay a monthly fee to access state-run healthcare. The scheme is managed by each autonomous region. Before application, you must have been a resident for at least one year. Please note that some regions such as Murcia, Balearic Isles and Madrid do not stipulate registered residency but are using the padron as proof of the one year residency. Valencia forms mention residencia but appear to also be using the padron.

Policy holders pay on an individual basis for access to public healthcare, regardless of pre-existing conditions, anywhere in Spain. Children do not have to join the Convenio Especial as they are protected under Spanish law and can access state healthcare for free.

The basic monthly fee is 60€ for the under 65s and 157€ for those aged 65 and above. However, prescriptions and prosthesis are not subsidised so you would pay 100% of prescription costs. This form of cover doesn’t give holders the right to an EHIC at this time, so if you wish to travel, you will need to take out private travel insurance. The scheme is now available in:

some people cannot get private health care , pre existing conditions not covered, but after a year there entitled to convieno , if resident. you do not need health ins , u can take a chance but then pay in full for treatment in 1st year if under 65,

i dont thinks its a law, that u must get private health care ,

..but you must have health care in order to apply for residencia. Pre existing conditions may not be covered but if you dont have residencia you are here illegally!!

A new law has been passed allowing universal healthcare for all but this hasnt been implemented in all areas yet...please see my previous post!!

your doc is for pensioners, proof of pension and healthcare, the extact from gg1a , states in bold, whats required, you are not illegall if your paying taxes and on padron (,fiscal resident i believe), going on what that doc from cab states, but your statement contradicts itself, if you fall ill, and your not covered then who pays, so whats the point of health cover when your gonna pay anyway, private healthcare is optional ,

just checked this, yes it does say what you are stating , but the other extract is correct too, i checked that too,

unless theyve changed the goalposts or about too, with universal cover, around the corner,  but id be interested to hear from some that has pre existing conditions and how they got round this, as it states full cover, therefore they would need to be resdent but cant get full cover, unless theyre paying through the nose  for it,
