Plenty of people do register their cars in Spain. Tax to pay, some require headlamp swapping, so aside from the steering wheel being on the wrong side (akward  getting tickets in car parks) there can be a significant cost involved. Word of warning though, your car needs be be EU approved to do all that, our Kia was shipped to the UK without the required conformity, just as well that we always planned to buy Spanish🇪🇸. Also, if you have a tow bar fitted it may need to be removed, something about needing to be fitted, with documents, by main dealer or some such.

Insurance will not be a problem.

Check that the costs of Spanish plating does not exceed the value of your vehicle.

Headlights IF they have to be changed can cost many hundreds of ££.

Secondhand cars in Spain are very expensive compared to the UK.

Spanish car tax is a lot less than the UK maybe about a third less.

Do plenty of research before committing yourself.

I have had a RHD car in Spain for the last 10 years & it can be a bit of a pain at time's.

Buy in Spain it’s much safer to drive a LHD car and although second hand cars are more expensive they hold their value and haven’t been through the UK weather so usually in better condition!

I see people spending a lot of money making their RH drive car Spanish compliant, then being annoyed at toll gates and parking lots.

Spend a little time, research and find the right dealer and you can get good second hand Spanish cars quite inexpensively.

Hi,

We recently moved to Los Alcázares on a permanent basis and brought our RHD Citroen car with us. The car is 5 yrs old. We got the car re-registered onto Spanish plates and the total cost was €1,000. This included the headlights being re-aligned, MOT( last for 2 yrs), new Spanish number plates and all taxes including import tax. We used car registration Spain( Roger) who do all the work including paper work. The car insurance I found I’m paying less in Spain than the UK, which includes full breakdown cover and also allows anyone in the family to drive as long as they are over the age of 25. Hope this helps.

regards

Andrew

Hi...we did the same....drove our RHD sports car over...its now just reached l0yrs. Had all works done at Decklid  in the Port (Dave and staff really helpful) we were lucky only needed to have lights realigned...theu did everything for us..all mechanical work......paperwork etc total cost 1200€....a great deal cheaper than a 2nd hand car...ITV (MOT) annual (due to cars age now 10yrs) we very rarely go out alone in the car so barriers etc are not a problem to us...we have friends who bought from a company called  Cars in Spain....dont know anything about them (check on line....some good reviews) good luck with whatever you decide to do...
