Hi,

I am applying for a TIE  for residency in Spain, as we come for the winter month for 5 months each year.

I'm using  https://mynie.co.uk/residency-in-spain/ for the application and for making appointments. (as did my NIE with them)

Can anyone tell me the best/cheapest Health insurance policy as do not want to get the wrong cover and then not be accepted for TIE application?

Any companies that you used or speak English and helpful.

Many thanks

Tara

If you are outside of Spain for >6 months each year, your TIE will be invalidated.

You will need to be in Spain for 6 months each year.

you are not residents unless you spend the majority of the year in Spain....you can only therefore stay a maximum of 90 days in 180  (in any Shengen country)

the information on the website of the company you are using is out of date....of course they will take your money without advising you that you do not qualify for residency ( which is now TIE for new applicants)

As above, unless you are in Spain >6 months per year, a TIE is not for you. But if you do decide to apply for a TIE ....

It's not just about cost or about applying for Residency. When you gain Residency, your PHI will, at least for a while, become your only source of healthcare. So accessibility and quality are the important factors.

My wife and I have our health insurance with DKV . My wife became seriously ill last year, and they have been absolutely fantastic.

BUT we have had to travel to obtain treatment and tests, mostly to the Quiron Hospital in Murcia. We have also used (I think) 8 other medical facilities in Murcia, Elche and Torrevieja.

This seems to be quite normal. We have met numerous other people "doing the rounds" - each having different insurers.

Into the detail .... insurers may quote the various clinics and hospitals that they use, but in reality, they pick and choose exactly what services they contract for at which hospital. So if your insurer's brochure says that they use (say) Quiron or IMED hospitals/clinics, the city you have to go to depends on the medical service you need.

We use a GP in our village (not the health centre) and she acts as the gateway into the DKV system - and she is very good at it.

Our local GP works with DKV (which may be why our local insurance broker recommended DKV). So it seems that the most important thing is to have an insurer who works with your local GP.

We have a neighbour who uses a different insurer. Her nearest insurer-affiliated GP is 50 minutes away by car.

thank you

On 6th July 2020 new rules - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain?utm_campaign=transition_p1&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=seg&utm_content=eut_spnukns_act0

You must register as a Spanish resident if you want to stay in Spain for more than 3 months

So I was looking into it

But have decided to just do 3 months max

We too use DKV. So far so good. Things like minor and even mayor tests have been affordable. Great doctors. Drs here don't have time for drama I've noticed. It's In & out to the point and that's how we like it.

DKV has paid and billed us our portion.

Other companies were very EXPENSIVE for the both of us at 66 then 3 years ago. Only High blood pressure then as preexisting condition for both. We started at less than €120/M each. We chose the Mid one I think it's Integral.

Have them explain CLAEARLY to you and write it down name date and time.

Best wishes.

Best wishes
