Following a couple of untimely deaths that have made us reassess our priorities, my wife and I have progressed our plans to retire early and move to the Costa Calida.

Whilst we are familiar with the coastal areas, the areas inland are less so, and we would welcome your suggestions as to where we should look at, bearing our list of priorities. We need at least 2 bedrooms and, being English, I'd prefer a house but a decent apartment would do.

Ideally our max budget would be £100k, with an absolute max of £110k excluding taxes.

Our main parameters are :-

1) Value for money (I'm a Yorkshireman and like to squeeze my teabags, if you know what I mean).

2) Ready to Move in condition. Not looking for a project thank you.

3) 30 mins max from Corvera airport.

4) Location must have a few bars and not be too remote. We need wi fi and mains sewage/electric.

5) Not a Golf Course!

6) Not a Golf Course! (Just in case you missed no.5).

My eyes are drawn to San Cayetano and also El Algar, purely on price/quality of house build.

I welcome your suggestions

Thanks

Dave

We bought on the Taray urbanization in San Cayetano a year ago and love it there. The village is traditionally Spanish and has everything you need but five minutes drive away are all the big supermarkets and ten minutes drive takes you to the coast. There is a mix of nationalities. You will always find someone to chat to in the local bars and everyone is very friendly. It isn’t far enough inland for us to be bothered that much with mosquitoes and flies which were a real nuisance at our previous place. We would definitely recommend it there and have no regrets. Hope this helps.

Hi, apologies for jumping onto this post, but we are looking for a holiday home (to eventually retire too) and have almost exactly the same requirements (although a slightly lower budget).  I'm trying to source a list of all the urbanisations South and East of Murcia which are NOT connected to a golf course!! Our favoured area is north of Puerto de Mazzaron, although its not a deal breaker. Can anyone help?

Shame.

NOT A GOLF CORSE.

Condado de Alhama seems right up your street, even though it has golf there are tons of people that live and buy there that don't play or like golf.

Give it a look at least, who knows, you might just like it.

If you don't, nothing ventured, nothing gained, ayy !.

Hello Dave

As you know Los Alcazares area is very popular as it is near the Mar Menor, shops, restaurants, sports centres, doctors etc etc.

Take a look at Property Rentals in Spain (details on here under Sponsored Businesses in Costa Calida at the foot of the page.  There are a few in your price range such as a house at Roda Village - another in Los Narejos - another at Delores de Pacheco etc etc. If you need further information please telephone 968136543 or mobile 608880661.

Camposol is cheap for a reason, read up all about it in the press and internet. Los Alcozares and the surrounding area has been hit very badly with flooding and this is likely to continues with the climate change we are experiencing.

Plenty of other areas particularly inland within your budget, but remember not to buy just on price. If you're going to retire in Spain, you don't want headaches!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We are going to pop over in Spring and will definitely be looking at San Cayetano.

I agree, what a pity, we have bought on Condado de Alhama, a golf resort, but it has so much to offer other than golf. We have our own roof terrace with fabulous mountain views, my two can go do their golf, and I have quiet time to relax and read a book, have a drink or whatever I fancy. We have a choice of pools surrounding us, plus the Alchazar centre with a spar supermarket, furniture and nic nak shop, and many bars and restaurants.
