Hi

We brought our home in San Cayetano last month and because of all the travel restrictions we still haven’t been able to come over. We are now keeping everything crossed for driving over last week in January so just wondering if anyone knows do we have to have negative Covid tests to travel like if we were flying? As it says on most forums this only applies to air & sea passengers not those travelling by road. We have international driving licences for France & Spain and Euro tunnel booking. Any help would be appreciated.

I would not waste your time doing anything yet.

Who knows what the rules will be at the end of January.

They are changing on a daily basis both in the UK and in Spain.

I would not do anything as things change daily. If things do not improve here in Spain the Prime Minister is contemplating further lockdowns despite Christmas. For a week shops had started to reopen and people were not confined to their municipality, although the 11pm to 6am curfew is still in place, but all that could change. The U.K. seems to change direction by the minute.

I agree with other posters that booking any travel in the current state is unwise. You could get here then be unable to return to the UK, or be refused entry to your municipality as it will not be your habitual home - and there is Brexit to consider with limitations on how long you can be in Spain.

If you do get here you will not be allowed to leave the Torre Pacheco municipality so everything will be very limited. Things are changing all the time but not getting any less stringent. For example from next Monday the whole Valencia region (which includes Alicante) is closed to travellers from other regions, so far until January but.....

There are very good reasons why travel is not advised and saying "but it is only us travelling" is in my opinion not good enough reason until they have got a grip on this virus. Maybe by Easter there will be vaccinations, maybe not, but coming to a holiday home is hardly essential.

We bought a holiday home in the UK but have to accept that we are unable to use it.

Thank you. Really appreciate the advice

This is not a holiday home this is going to be our permanent home once we can get there.

But not yet...without residencia you may be refused entry, but if things stay the same it is difficult to see that it would be an enjoyable stay. If you are not ready to go for residencia at this time maybe it would be better to wait until you can make the most of the limited time you would be allowed? If you will be making the move straight away then while all things government are not running at full speed you would have to spend all your time here chasing around sorting health cover, TIE, driving licence etc. At this point the reality of what Brexit will mean is not clear also - you may not want to come and live full time.

This is what Brittany ferries are saying - PCR for Spain, Sworn Statement for France.

Even if you get off a car ferry in Spain or France, cross-country travel restrictions may interfere with your journey
