Hello, I have discovered a puppy tied on a very short lead, he can just about lie down.  He is being kept on a patio surrounded by faeces and consequently covered in flies.  He is not given a constant supply of water and does not seem to ever be moved from this confined space.

I have very limited Spanish so wonder if someone who speaks the language would help try and educate the owner of the cruel life he is imposing on this poor puppy.

Any suggestions would be welcome.  So far I have been told to contact Seprona and will do this as a last resort.  It would be nice just to make the owner aware before I take this step.

Denise, please take a photo of this pup in distress and report immediately sweetheart. Maybe get a neighbour to assist you but be very careful as you don't know how the owner will react.  Either way, you must at least report it to Seprona or indeed the Police, with or without photo.

Would assist but in UK, surely somebody near to you can assist.  Please don't leave it until tomorrow if it's as bad as you say. That pup needs your help now.

Come on guys, surely somebody over there After reading this can assist??

Would appreciate an update, it'll be on my mind all night...... Good luck.

Denise, what's happening to this pup. If it's that bad, don't talk to the owner, could be dangerous for you and the pup.  The owner may try try hide the evidence.   Please give an update.

In arboleas near the ayuntamiento, there is a shop who helps with this

Hi went round last night with a lady who speaks Spanish. Puppy had food and water and was full of beans but sadly still being kept on a short lead. We asked him to make a longer lead but he thinks it might try and jump the gate. We will continue to keep watch and if necessary take action will keep you posted

Update on puppy, and thank you for the helpful comments.  I am going to monitor how things develop but as posted to one reply went round last night and puppy had food, the chap showed us a water container which he uses to top its bowl.  The lady with me speaks Spanish and ascertained he was doing a trial with the pup with a view to keeping it.  He seemed to think if it was on a longer lead it could try and jump over the fence and hurt itself.  I'm not convinced it can live on the end of a short lead and that's it's life! The people where it lives are very good with keeping stray cats fed and have an older dog which is just allowed to roam around freely but this seems to be fairly normal for a lot of older Spanish people.  The young people who have dogs in the village seem very caring and walk their dogs.

I will keep an eye and if we decide it is in distress we will take action.

thanks to you all

Denise

Well done for doing that but here's the little pup's problem.   The decision as to the welfare of the pup should be taken by experts, dog's shouldn't be tethered when unaccompanied,  they can choke to death. Animal waste and flies are a dangerous combination in any weather, more so when hot.  Probably not exercised or inoculated? The pup will look full of beans and happy when somebody says hello.

Well done but please let the experts decide, even if it's just local pet rescue or animal sanctuary,  they and vets will have all the contacts and may even remove the problem from you.  Right now, it's still in your hands Denise!!

CALL THE POLICE NOW AND REPORT THEM   and to all the other organisations mentioned in previous posts

Spanish have absolutely no idea about looking after an animal properly !

They should all be banned from keeping any sort of animal as I've also seen how they treat them !!!

send me the address and I will go around there and have a word,  no need to speak Spanish as they will get the point !

People who are cruel to animals are scum of the earth,  end of !

Here you go Denise, Househunter offering to help you.     Please don't think anyone is having a go at you, just extremely concerned about the pup.  These type will make all sorts of promises and just cover their own tracks.   I've known dogs to be killed and dumped to save face and the possibility of being charged for cruelty.  Let the experts decide.   24hours since 1st post.

I agree !    Nobody is having a go and I thank all the other people who have made suggestions on their posts !    Denise has done a wonderful thing and She should be applauded and helped any way possible by everyone to resolve this awful situation.

I know we can't change the culture of Spain and I don't want to, it is not in general the animal loving culture of the British and thats just the way it is ,but as humans we can try and help and even educate where we can ???

If you can't look after an animal properly then don't have one !
