We have an air con unit in our lounge, would like one in the bedroom. Would we able to run one off the same external inverter unit. Any recommendations.

I know you can buy 'multi-split' aircon units that run 2-4 indoor units from 1 external condenser (which are normally larger & more powerful), but I don't know if you can just add an additonal indoor unit to a 'standard' external unit.

The external unit would need to have the power to adequately supply 2 indoor units and also have the actual connections.

As you would need to buy an indoor unit and have the connecting pipework installed, it may work out only a little more to have another single split unit installed?

Hope this helps!

and if the unit packs in you have no heat/cool, whereas with separate units you can retreat to the other room.

In short: no, you cannot just add another indoor unit to your existing inverter.
