I see that there is a train station in Balsicas. Does anyone know if there are buses to there from San pedro? Or roughly what a taxi would cost?

We are still considering whether we will need a car while we're there for a few months at a time or if we'll be able to make do with public transport.

Thanks.

There is a bus service to Balsicas (47 I think)  but I think there are currently engineering  upgrade works preventing direct train connections to various places like Madrid

The 48A goes to/from Dos Mares  so I think you can survive without a car  :)

Thank you, we'll give them a try when we're there. And make sure we plan any trips around their works.

My Husbands read on his phone that between October to December Spanish Government are allowing free Travel on all trains.Has anyone else heard this.We are over in October and were also thinking off seeing what trains go from Balsicas to other areas to have a few days in different location.Does anyone have a time table for what routes go from Balsicas, and do you pay at train station or do you need to do everything online. Thanks

Can I jump on this post and ask what the parking situation is for the Balsicas station? We're planning a few days away and have booked train tickets from there to Alicante and will need to leave our car at Balsicas for a couple of days. Is there any official parking or would we have to park in the streets nearby?

We booked directly through the Renfe website and took advantage of the cheap offers. If you register with them first, you can earn points for future use. Their website has an English option.

Sounds like Balsicas train station is going to be well used in September and October 😂 Which is good news 👍

As someone said before, Balsicas train station is not running at this time. There's a bus provided by Renfe that picks up passengers from or to  Balsicas train station to the applicable train station. Whether your origen or destination is Balsicas-Mar Menor, Renfe is responsible for getting you there at no extra cost. If you want to avoid bus/train combo, you can directly travel by bus. A link of buses was given earlier or Google buses from...to Balsicas & viceversa...

Hope it helps.
