Travel insurance going to Spain

It's very unlikely that any insurers will provide cover, as it's a general exclusion on all policies (although some business policies may have special clauses that allow for this).

I'm normally quite risk-averse and would never travel without insurance, however, thinking about this situation and what travel insurance covers:

Cancellation - if my flight is cancelled, the airline will refund me (eventually).

Lost baggage - I don't carry much of value.

Medical - this to me has always been the chief reason for travel insurance. However, the EHIC card is still valid until 31st December 2020, which provides cover for any urgent treatment in Spain. If (God forbid) anything really serious happened, it doesn't cover repatriation, which you would assume is a low risk of occurring, but very high cost if it did; and I have also heard of examples where people have used a private doctor or ambulance by mistake, which isn't covered by the EHIC.

If you were thinking of driving to Spain, it would also be worth checking your car insurance and breakdown cover as they may have similar exclusions.

I think the governement will change their advice, just not sure how soon...

Hi.  Battleface Insurance will cover for Covid and all the usual stuff.  I got a quote yesterday and it's not cheap, but worth paying so you can visit your 2nd home/have a holiday x

Thank you Barbara. I have in fact contacted Battlefield and you are right about them re Covid. The problem is they wont cover me or my wife for covid because we are aged over 59. But they do cover you even if foreign office say not travel etc . 

Ah, didn't want to ask your age!! As an earlier response said, your EHIC card will cover all your medical (including COVID) as long as you use Public and not Private medical services. Good luck 🤞

Yes I have just took out insurance with Battleface for my wife and I + 2 children and it has cost £151 for a 2 week period.

But yes as others have said it excludes those over 59 unfortunately.
