I wonder if someone could explain what the rules are for Irish( EU) citizens please? Is the stay limited to 90 days in a calendar year? Or 90 days in a 180 day period? In other words up to two 90 day visits over the course of one year?

Hi as I understand if you hold a eu passport as long as you report your presence and aquire a visa which apparently is free !.

We have a property in murcia I unfortunately hold a uk passport.

However my wife holds both a uk and Italian passport.

My solicitors inform me as I am married to a eu national my freedom of movement is un impaired .

So your freedom of movement is ok I believe

Thank you for this, interesting what you say about Freedom of movement because of your wife. It’s very interesting.
Is it 90 days a year  as an EU citizen or 90 days in 180 days do you know?

As I understand 90 days allowed no return for 180 days within 12 months but I may be wrong?

Its 90 days max in-each 180 day period...day 1 being the day you arrive....not really been monitored too closely but definitely will be in the future.

And how are they going to monitor this then ??

There are no passport checks at Corvera, its just a flap of the hand & you are in the country.

And a flap of the hand as you leave..........

They still haven’t really confirmed for sure that this will be the case from 1 January 2021 and travel agents are selling holidays for next year as normal (not sure what happens if you book to go skiing in Austria in January and a week in Spain in June - I assume they will refuse you entry on your second trip) but it is looking that way. I understood that if you hold an Irish passport (whether you are from Northern or Southern Ireland) you keep your freedom of movement. Also if you have an Irish grandparent you can apply for an Irish passport even if you’ve never been there. I still can’t believe that it will come to the British people having to abide by this 90 day rule as I think some countries will lose so much income. So many people have holiday homes, go for weekend breaks, day trips to France. We usually come out to Spain for a couple of months at a time 3 times a year but will have to probably rethink that from January and do 2 x 90 day trips. We are also waiting to hear what happens about pet passports as we usually drive down with our dogs.

It's 182 days. But they have no real way of monitoring. But if your worried just come down through France or claim you have. Thanks to schegen there are no border controls at all. I'm not sure they check. Just means as non resident your not taxed, but at same time cannot claim benefits
