We are hoping to move to lo pagan area and would like to know if this area is troubled by biting insects, especially with the mud flats area nearby? If it is, when are the best and worse times during the year?

Yes the area generally has biting insects, indeed the town council are now spraying for Tiger mosquitoes. We were badly bitten on Saturday 1st May, we were bitten frequently during September/ October last year and I have many, many scars from bites sustained here in Lo Pagan/San Pedro over the past 3 years that I have spent time here! May/June and Sept/Oct have been the worst for us.

I have travelled the world, but can honestly say that I have not been bitten as much or as badly (fingers and hands swelling to the point that my knuckles disappeared😱) as I have here.

When we were looking at buying here, I was told that it was a hot country and to expect the occasional insect bite.....I wasn’t worried as I had never been bitten before; the spanish insects however apparently like my blood better than the Thai, Indian, Malaysian, jamaican or American insects did😂

My advice is to stock up on antihistamine tablets and hydrocortisone cream, both available reasonably cheaply here, along with pure alcohol for cleaning...again cheaply and widely available.

If you can cope with that, then it without doubt the most beautiful place to holiday or indeed as we do live part time 😁

Thank you so much for your valuable information. My partner tends to get feasted upon, so it is a very important consideration for us. I am not sure how far the mossies travel to eat..perhaps we need to look for properties a bit further away..

Once again..many thanks Kate

Same here! Been all over and never been bitten like here. Always used to say they don’t like me but they do here. Does anyone know if you’re less likely to get bitten nearer the sea?

Sadly not...we live 10.mins walk (2 mins drive/cycle) from the mar menor, salinas and Med in San Pedro Del Pinatar. I used to say that they didnt like me as I havent been bitten anywhere before, but here....my God I am a delicacy i think 😂🤣
