I am a retired person who used to live in Murcia area but had to come back to the UK after the crash of 2008.  I am looking to rental a small place in the regions Costa Calida or just north in Alicante area.  I am also interested in the retirement properties.  Thank you.

It would help if you could say which 6 weeks.....people who use their properties have their holidays/family dates, but of course there are times when properties are essentially empty and could be let out to responsible people :) I have a small property newly renovated townhouse in San Pedro that I may consider renting out for short periods, but would need an idea of the month/6 weeks you had in mind.

Regards

Kate

Hi Kate, thank you for replying to my query.  I used to live in the area and went back this year for the first time in several years and fell in love with it all over again.  I am a retired person, been retired for several years, and as I said ideally I would like to rent a place for four to six weeks. It would be for myself only, but my idea was that if a friend wished to join me for a week or so that would not be a problem. I don’t know if that would make a difference or not but if it does it is not important.

Ideally, I suppose, March/ April, but I know April is going into the more expensive period.  Latter part of the year would be good too, I’m quite easy with dates. Whatever is available I suppose and in my price range.

If this is of interest to you, could you let me know whereabouts your property is?  Another major point for me, I’m afraid, is that I don’t drive, and as long as supermarkets etc are within walking distance I’ll be happy.  As I am on my own I like to go to cafes etc and generally eat out most days.

If I can give you any more information please let me know and in the meantime I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Jill Allen

Hi Jill,

We bought the house for us as a holiday home to be honest, and it is at the top of San Pedro just around the corner from at one end the Terrapin Park/cafe and the other Amigos bar/Chinese shop, italian restaurante and indian restaurant - 15 min walk int to the centre. I don't drive either, so this was my criteria too - keeps me fit, walking everywhere.

I would prefer it to be inhabited when we are not there, but as this is the very first year we have had it, it is being well used to be honest and to be fair it is not something I have discussed with my husband yet, although he does know I would prefer someone to be there, so I don't think it would be an issue.

It will be available from Mid November (we had lovely weather last year in November as this is when we were out there looking and bought this one)  to the end of January - winter in a warmer climate perhaps? I do have a keyholder/agent who will go and get gas bottles for the gas heater we have in there as long as you pay for that, (I think its 20 euros which includes the collection of the old bottle and delivery of the new) however I was there in January and February getting work done (new bathroom, third floor bedrooms etc) and only used the fire once in the evening - a throw on the settee was enough.

We also have an arrangement whereby you can either leave it clean, bedding washed and beds remade, or the keyholder will do it - you pay them directly for this and its currently 60 Euro - My daughter and her new husband are there at the moment and they are doing this so that they don't spend their last day cleaning :)

I have been told that the going rate for winter is 25GBP per night and as long as the Air conditioning/heater is not abused and the house left as it was found then I don't see a problem with you having a friend out with you - there are two double beds, 2 sets of bunk beds and a single :)

Let me know what you think and i will speak to my husband is necessary this evening - be aware that the flights will be into Corvera from October this year as they are closing the San Javier/MJV airport - again my keyholders will collect you and take you back and the fare I think is going to be 40 euro each way if you want them to :)

Thanks for your quick reply.  I know the exact area you are talking about, I do believe I walked around there nearly every day, going to the Consume and the market etc. I even had fish and chips twice at the amigo!  Is it possible, I don’t know this site very well so presuming it is ok to discuss details as we are doing.  I see that you can write privately but I would need to know your username I think.  There is quite a lot of information I need to know, and also dates when it would be ok to rent, when obviously you and your family are not using it.  One time for me which is a no no is high summer when for me it is too hot.

I think I need to discuss money side of it first which obviously means dates when available, and I forgot that st javier airport is closing, but then it has been closing for years!! I love st javier airport.

My username is jillya, perhaps we could discuss further if you wish?

Hi Jill, apologies for the delay, I don’t know the site well either and it has taken me a while to find the post again!

My user name is shown at the side of each post....KateCB, or you can email me

Amigos is literally 2 mins walk from the house....Consum is 10 mins walk 😁

I am still talking to my husband about it....we have spent quite a lot of money making it all shiny and new, new furniture, tv, beds, bedding, mattresses, new structure, new bathroom etc, so naturally he is concerned about renting out - we have all heard the horror stories where people’s homes have been damaged/items stolen etc and it’s fair to say it is a worry when it’s a home, not a rental investment 😌

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend Jill, we are going away into the Peak District walking.

Hi Kate,

Sorry to put a spanner in the works but renting properties out on a short term basis (I notice you said 25 per night) has to have a Spanish tourist license and there are high fines for those who do not comply with the rules and regulations involved.

Personally I would not rent out my precious holiday home as it could be risky.

It's different when people buy properties primarily to rent out or decide to go back to UK and rent out long term but if you want to come back to your property to have a holiday and want it in the perfect condition you left it, then I would think long and hard about renting it out for short periods.

This isn't to say that any one asking on here would not be a good renter but how can you be sure?

Hi, thanks for that, I didn’t know about having a tourist licence to do that, however as you will have seen, my husband is of the same opinion as you and I have now put the lady in touch with someone who has bought as a pure rental investment, so all has worked out well 😀
