Hello there

I recently purchased a bungalow holiday home in Lo Pagan, 7 Oct to be exact.
The lawyers took almost 3 months to obtain my NIE, so the 1st bill on 4 November taken from my account was in previous owners name and was 40€ 60c. I was only there 8 days, no TV or wifi or electric oven etc.

I queried this with the lawyers clerk dealing with my purchase, and her response was “you bought on 7 October and this bill is 4 November, so it is yours!”

I asked for the details/bill that she accepted on my behalf and she said this was not “usual” but would ask Iberdrola to send a bill.

I received another bill dated 24/10 to 24/11, which is some €28! I haven't even been there during that period and there is a charge of 13€ plus for usage!

I understand that a service charge is applied as over here.

Help me understand please. How do bills work in Spain/Murcia region?

I haven’t  had water or local tax bills yet.

Regards from a perplexed pensioner in UK.

Your bill is probably just for standing charges.

Depending on your contracted power.

3.3 kw standing charge would be around 13 euro per month.

5.5 kw would be around 28 euro per month.

That is before you use any electric at all.

Check your electric meter readings

Thank you for your reply. I believe it is 3.3kw supply has had electrician in last week to advise on upgrading single sockets to double. And he said to upgrade to 5.5. Also only partly earthed.

worth getting it sorted and potencia upgraded IMHO. You do not want to have to keep checking if a washing machine or the aircon is on before you dare boil a kettle.....and as for irons....

Elec is expensive in Spain and you will pay a standard charge even when you're not using it. This is normal

It does not matter you still have to pay the standing charge.
