Good afternoon,

Like many others we have just bought in San Pedro and are not sure which tariff to opt for with Iberdrola. It appears that we are presently on a 3.45kw supply tariff but have just replaced our gas water boiler with an electric one and bearing in mind that we shall be using a cooker, kettle and fridge are obviously likely to exceed that supply. We don`t mind changing tariff although not sure which one to choose.

Should we by chance exceed our existing tariff or do we just get penalised at a higher rate or does a trip activate isolating the supply to our apartment?

We would be very grateful for any advice.

Regards

Paul and Deirdre.

Hi Paul & Deirdre

First of all, do not worry about extra charges, that will not happen.

However, you are spot on about tripping your circuit.

We were in the same position as you and with the same company you are with now. After putting up with tripping switches every time we switched our grill on or did a roast dinner etc…This year, we decided to swap supplier and increase the supply into the house.

We are now with Gana Energy and we swapped via Ana Saez at the Utility Group - All hassle free, no charge and we are on a better deal than we was on before, cheaper and no blown and tripped fuses anymore!!!!

You can email here- [email protected]

I promise she will sort you out and it’s seriously zero grief or hassle as she does all the work for you!!!!

Regards

Colin

You don't get penalised in any way.

I have exactly the same set up as you with no air conditioning.

I am with Iberdrola / Curenergia on their high/medium/low time of day tariff.

I don't get trip outs at all or very very rarely.

The problem you will have if you up your supply rating from 3.3 kw to 5 kw is that your monthly standing charge will virtually double.

So if it is a holiday home, as is mine, you will be faced with bigger bills just on the standing charge alone.

Be very careful when using these switch companies as some of them levy an annual charge.

Make sure you know exactly what you will be signing up for.

Hi we have a 2 bedroom house with hot tub and air con. We are with iberdrola online plan. Same price 24/7 .11 per kwh so doesnt matter when i put washing machine on etc. All electric apart from hot water. I reduced our potencia from 5.75 for both Punta and valle to 4.5 and 3.5. One off charge was 10 euros to change it at the meter. Im saving about 10 a month on the standing charge and nothing has tripped and we live here full time.

Hi,

We updated ours to 5.5kw a couple of years ago and had to get some wiring updated and we’re all electric, so 3 x aircon, updated boiler plus cooker and everything else and rarely have a trip out and if you go on the iberdrola website they have a thing where you enter in all your appliances and they tell you what you’ll need, I think our standing charge went up from 32 to 47!

Hope this helps

Paul

One last question. We are non resident in an apartment block and would be grateful if you would have any idea if the dreaded `trip` is located at the central meter location or does it reset automatically after activation when the electrical apparatus has been switched off within the apartment ? We have just bought the apartment and shall be over in a few weeks time and are obviously worried about such a scenario.

Paul and Deirdre.
