This might read like a 1st World problem, and we aren't corresponding for an English grammar test, but when writing Q&A's, some people should be more attentive to the correct use of the words... there, their and they're.

Feel free to discuss or ignore my mini-rant 🤔. I'm done 😁

In the overall scheme of things does it really matter?

Actually it does matter. If we start to disregard the normalities of life, just because we are going through a pandemic, what could be the next step that won't be considered that important? Civilisations can crumble at the drop of a hat - all because they stopped caring about doing things right. It costs little or nothing to continue to live at the level at which we currently live!

One of the normalities I would like to see preserved is the avoidance of public criticisms of a contributor. for mispelling or typos etc. I often see responses on this forum, which would be better handled with a PM. So the contributor can correct spelling etc.without humiliation

Can we just do that?

Life is far too short for that, so a typo here and there, what difference does it make.  Who knows some of these people you complain about might be dyslectic, have you thought of that?

Quite agree.  If it doesn’t matter, then why bother learning anything?

I do, however, appreciate that some people have genuine reasons for not being ‘A - Level students’, but it’s the general ‘don’t care’ attitude in all things which is eating away at society.

But as a dyslexic it is surely there write to be understood weather or not yew or others our unhappy with they’re use of words.  For goodness sakes there are far more important issues facing the world today.  It might well be down to a case of ‘fat fingers’ or predictive text.  It’s a beautiful day, enjoy the sunshine with a glass of whine.

Great post, there are others than Dyslectic that have problems, lots of people have different problems and some --

want to castigate them for things that are not their fault, I have explained earlier in this thread, but some still do not understand

I can assure you that the spelling and meanings of words continues to develop and adapt, what was right when I was a lad is not always wright not.

I give you on example of this and it is why dictionaries and thesauruses are up dated.

I was quite gay as a lad in the 50's being happy, but I am not gay now and I think most boys would object to being described as gay even if they are happy.

In the end if even after a slight pause you understand it that is good enough.  The only time this does not apply if in finance and law as the other side would take advantage.

Well, if it were not for the constant incorrect spelling of the word "definitely" to "definately", we would never have known who was the corrupt cop in Line of Duty!

GrahamG - perhaps you should go back to bed. 🤣 If it’s so boring, why are you still looking?

Firstly, I don’t believe that the number of dyslexics correlates to the amount of shoddy posts on here. Methinks this is merely an excuse.

‘Tidy home, tidy mind’ springs to mind.

Seriously, maybe those who think it’s unimportant would like to buy books with dreadful standards of grammar and spelling?
