Hi everyone.

We are looking to buy a place in Spain.
Initially for holidays, with the plan to retire out there in a few years time.

We are probably a year or so away from being in the position to buy, but I want to do as much research as possible & at least have a good idea of where to focus for online estate agents etc.

I think we are fairly typical with our 'wish-list':

  • Coastal with decent expat community.
  • Cycle / walking distance to the sea
  • Close to amenities (local rather than too touristy)
  • Year-round rather than just holiday season.
  • 2 beds / 2 bath
  • Private outside space
  • Access to community pool.

We should have a budget of around £100k + enough to cover expenses etc.
Obviously, things can change, but I do not want to be wasting any time searching in areas that would not work for us.

Any help or advice would be most welcomed!

Thank you Dan & Allie

That is incorrect. You can move to live permanently in Spain, but you need to obtain a visa in order to do so.

If you do not move permanently (or until you do), you can stay for a maximum of 90 in any rolling 180 days.

I appreciate that but there are strict conditions to get a visa

I agree - but your statement 'if you are British I hope you realise that since brexit you cannot live permenantly (sic) in Spain' is totally incorrect and misleading, which does not help the original poster...

I am a Brit and like most have permanent residencia. You get a temporary residents permit that becomes permanent after , I think, 5 years.

Looks at the internet page for idealista. They have almost all San Pedro properties listed.

Hi I bought my apt. 20 years ago in San Pedro del Pinatar.

My criteria was:

 1. To be near a Spanish town

2. To be able to see the sea

3 .To be South facing...a must in winter.

As long as I got the above I didn't mind where I was.

Bingo...San Pedro offered the lot, and all in 5 days of looking!!!!

A guy down the road said it took him 5yrs to find his property!!! Why...because he had no criteria and could therefore have spent a lifetime looking!!!!

San Pedro is very flat with good bike lines all down the coast. So you can set off in the morning stop off for coffee and brandy go a bit further and lunch by the sea on the way back 'oh its happy hour' so a nice 'Pinicolada'

It's just such a fab Spanish town and so near to anything you could want.

I hope this helps, if you want to know any more just message me. Good Luck!

A

I could be accused of nit-picking but if you (quite rightly) are going to try to use Spanish, try to get it right...the greeting is "Hola!" with an "H", though an "H" is never pronounced.
