I found that the water level in my pool was rising, so checked the float, to find that it had ceased, it was now a dead float☹️ I went to my local pool supply shop, and a float kit is 45 euros, I asked if they could fit it for me, they could for 30 euros, so, altogether 90 euros all in, including tax, 😃, they came same day (yesterday) fantastic 🤩, but, here the problem starts, they removed the old unit, down to a remaining large nut, kept trying, god bless him! But after much hard work, and cussing, it just would not budge, it was explained to me that, when the unit was first installed, there should have been some tape wrapped round the protruding pipe with thread, this would have prevented the corrosion/timescale issue, by causing a barrier between the two, the timescale/ corrosion, has built up over six years, hence marrying the pieces together firmly, so, after much effort, and no success, I have been left with no water, due to the mad rush of water that cascades once the water is turned back on, with no level/water flow control, and he has left a bag over the outlet, so no water can escape from the float unit into the pool, hence it quickly rises up and floods the terrace.

Now, this is where you come in, can anyone let me know if they have had same problem, and outcome please? I have been told that they will endeavour to get the nut removed, but need a special tool etc, and someone else to do it from the same company, with a bit more know how, but, I have been told this could take a few days, is there any way that the outlet can be capped off, so that I can have my water back on, or, does the nut actually have to be removed, in order to be replaced with the new unit? it's the little things I miss, like taking a shower, flushing the loo without having to use a bucket of water from the pool etc😊

You can see the corroded nut in the last two photos!

They have since explained to me, that the nut has to be removed in order to fit the new float unit.

We have not had the same problems  but like any old nut put plenty of wd40 on as well as heat gun and a bit of elbow grease might help good luck

Yes we have tried WD40, they are hopefully coming back tomorrow with a tool that will do it, they must have come across this problem before, as they were well aware of the issue caused by not putting a tape barrier between the nut and the threaded metal outlet for the water level, thank you though, appreciated!

They should have used a penetrating oil not WD40 really.

But it sounds as though they did not have the right tools.

It sounds a bit like things could go horribly wrong to me.....like something snapping off !!

An angle grinder should do it! 😁

Are you sure there is no separate water feed to the pool? Mine is behind a silver cover on the terrace. at least you could have the house water on. I had a major issue with a leaking pool pipe under the house and ended up getting the pump moved to the front.

Thanks for adding the pictures.

Well whoever attempted to do that for you as it really mullered the nut not having the correct spanner.

I do hope they come back ??

Yes, I found a pool was being installed round the corner from my house, and I asked if they could come to my house to see a problem I have with my pool, they did say that it would need the tiles etc cut above the water outlet, in order to fix the problem, and expensive, I asked if there was anyway that I could cap off the outlet instead, he asked where the pool equipment was, and then showed me that there is an outlet for the shower and one for the pool, he turned off the pool one, and now I can have my house water on no problem, I won't go to the expense of having to have an excavation done, and will leave as is, I can still top the pool up as when, by turning the inlet valve back on, I gave him 30 euros, which he tried to refuse, but, he has saved me a lot more by being so helpful, and giving up five minutes of his other job to help me🤩

What I cannot understand though is, why on earth could the person who dismantled the old float, then putting a bag over the water outlet, meaning that when I turned the water on at the mains, it just absolutely gushed out onto the patio, meaning I could not have the water on for fear of flooding, it would have been great if he had known how to turn the water to the pool off, and would have saved me a lot of stress 😬 😁
