I am looking to buy a holiday home, I have visited costa Blanca areas x 3 times and now looking at Murcia. My husband and I are in our 50’s and have teenage daughter we are looking at a good location near beach . But want to experience an all round place that does not close down in winter does Santiago de la riviera offer that ? And is there things for young people to do ? Or should we look somewhere else ? We like the finer things in life , walking , swimming , eating out etc .

Santiago de la Ribera is a Spanish holiday resort within San Javier and is very quiet out of the holiday season and  busy in summer. It does have a lovely beach and some good restaurants and bars. SanJavier town just 5 minutes inland is a year round working town, lots happening (outside of the current pandemic) and reasonable prices. Lots to do for young people.

You could also look at Los Alcazares or  few kms inland are some golf resorts with a ready made community and plenty of amenities.

Thanks for your response. I will take a look. Are the golf results not too quiet ? I am worried about being stuck somewhere and having to drive every where. I see a lot of golf properties at reasonable prices however I do not know the locations do you know any of them that are good ? And in good locations?

Hello,

We have a house in San Javier and as such we know quite well Santiago de la Ribera.  Very nice area.

If you would like to visit some places you can contact David Martinez. He knows the area very well.

He is a reliable person and speaks English.

We highly recommend him

Here is his business card.

Joelle

Thanks so much when we can travel again and are due over I will certainly reach out. Meanwhile any good places to look appreciated I am searching the internet constantly for property however when you don’t know the areas it is difficult x I need somewhere that I can travel to on my own and my daughter could use later on with friends. I don’t want to be a million miles from sea however conscious of budget x

Hi Karen,

La Ribera is lovely but out of season it’s quiet and maybe won’t offer much for your daughter in the way of activities/opportunities to make friends. However in season it’s busy with holiday makers, a large number which are Spanish. And of course like all other Spanish towns it has its share of festivals and carnivals. San Javier is a 5 min drive from the sea front and is a typical busy Spanish town where properties are a little cheaper.

San Pedro del Pinatar to the north of la Ribera is a year round working Spanish town and like someone else has suggested Los Alcázares which is approx 7km south of la Ribera has a large expat community so meeting and making friends would be easier.

As for living on a golf course, if you play golf and want to play it daily then living on a golf complex makes sense and is ideal but if you don’t play golf and don’t have any interest in taking it up then why would anyone opt to buy a property on a golf complex and leave it every day to go do something else, like be on the beach.....don’t get seduced by cheaper property prices on golf courses...location, location, location always wins out....good luck.

Thank you, again some great advise I will take a look at those areas. I do not play golf and therefore do not want to feel isolated on a golf course unless near amenities. Thanks

Most people who live on golf courses do not play golf but the resorts offer a friendly community, 24 hour security well kept gardens and maintained communal areas and some have access to amazing facilities.

Karen, all of the advantages mentioned come with communal fee charges, some quite hefty, but if budget is not a consideration and people opt to pay for access to facilities they are not going to use so be it....and as golf complexes are occupied mostly by retired people what attractions would it hold for a teenager...

Roda Golf, is just on the outskirts of Roda village and both are quite close to Los Alcázares...when looking at the price of the properties check out the communal fees.....when we looked at a golf resort I wasn’t prepared to pay the communal fee for use of a pool when I can maintain out own pool for approx €1000 per year.

Good luck with your search.....
