Hi all. I'm Andy and my wife Laura plus our 2 young girls 10 and 6.

We managed to buy our property in January in Ribera ( travelled all over but fell in love with the area) but with all that's gone on only managing to get out in July. Im driving my family over and we are staying for 4 weeks thanks for my furlough!

We are about 15 mins walk out from the front towards San Javier near to the school off Calle Cabo Huertas. Now my wife wil be working for some of it and I've managed to arrange fibre install when we arrive but I'm looking after the girls each day so much more recon to do! Both my wife and daughter have birthdays while we are here too so I'm keen to discover all the cafes and restaraunts to frequent, and all the bakeries and tapas bars. Also to get brushed up on our Spanish! Also, be good to know where if anywhere I can get party stuff like balloons for my daughters birthday. Anyway. Super excited for the trip and can't wait to make a mark on our new home. Would be great to meet people and im an avid cyclist soo so the bike is coming along. Again hope to hear more from you all and myself asking lots of questions! Thanks.. Andy

join the facebook pages for the ayuntamiento de San Javier which is the town hall covering Ribera, there is also a turismo page where you’ll find whats on info. If you want to try some Spanish theres a conversation group in Ribera but we usually finish for summer...loads of Chino shops to explore for everything you need for party ware...presume you’ll have your car so go to Dos Mares and Pinatar Park shopping centres.....

For great coffee an the best pastries you must find Jose Antonio opposite the sailing club right on the paseo.....pm me if you want any more info...

Hi Andy and Laura, welcome to la Ribera....is it it just a fab place...

As per crissywissy you will find all of the items needed to create a wonderful birthday environment for your daughter in the Chino shops, one beside Aldi and another along from the Mercadona by the roundabout just south of San Javier. Jose Antonio’s along the paseo (promenade) is great for a morning coffee and some tostadas and another you should explore with your daughters is Confiteria Montesinos along Av. Sandoval, the main street down to the paseo....it’s full of locals cakes....but they speak limited English so lots of pointing required.

It sounds like you are a little further out from la Ribera than us (we are just behind the main police station) and therefore maybe close to La Plaza Pizzeria just off the main road between la Ribera and SJ.....it’s a very popular spot, frequented by locals and holiday makers and the food is really nice, maybe a euro or two more than you will pay somewhere else but a lovely restaurant with outside seating and the staff speak pretty good English. One of our favourites is La Liada, easily found off the promenade, a great place to try lots of different typical Spanish tapas. Along Av. Sandoval you will find places to eat, Elenas is good for some typical fare and Marazul (bottom of Av. Sandoval) where you will get a good menu del dia...then a couple of chiringuitos (bottom of AS and to the right over by the air academy)....a wonderful place for a cold drink while the children play on the sand right beside you...

Due to Covid the carnival 1st weekend in August has been cancelled but something for your 2021 diary....

I could talk all day about la Ribera but best to leave it at that and if you want to ask more questions or hear more about the restaurants we like just pm me and I’ll share all with you.

Really great fish restaurant called La Lonja, approx one block back from seafront on Calle O'Shea (yes, honest to God!) and they also sell fresh fish. V popular with locals and visitors alike & staff extremely friendly and efficient. Great buzz to this place & amazing food and wine v reasonably priced. Enjoy. Tel no. 968 573 410, you'll need to book.

Hi Andy & Laura

Santiago de la Ribera is one of my favourite spots too. We have recently purchased a house not far from where you seem to be too and will be moving in next few weeks. We currently live on one of the golf resorts. Panes & co up towards San Javier town centre is a very good cafe & bakery. We love some of the chirrunguitos along the front for tapas - the one near the sailing club is a favourite. Not tried many of the other restaurants down there yet, but plan to try them all once we move in. We also love walking along to Lo Pagan, and El Rubio 360 is fabulous for afternoon cocktails, not eaten there but have heard that food is excellent too.

Be good to meet up once you arrive.

I am currently looking at internet and also needing some local tradesmen and looking for recommendations if anyone can help out. Particularly tiler & plumber.

All the best :)

Hi Andy

What a great decision to buy in Ribera! My wife and I bought 16 years ago and travel regularly to enjoy this fabulous resort and surrounding area.

We are (air corridors accepted) returning on the 18th July for 10 days.

We are a fit just retired couple (runner and golf enthusiast) who get about on our bikes and only hire a car in the winter months.

Our property is 10 mins from the beach after a 10 minute stroll along the promenade.

Be more than pleased to meet upfor a coffee to pass our non resident experience to you and wife.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Rob and Les

Hi Robc,

If you only hire a car in the winter how do you get from the airport and which airport to la Ribera? Always interested to hear about alternatives to car hire..

Thanks.....

Thanks so much for all of the info, it's really useful! Gives me plenty to investigate that's for sure. Again thanks and can't wait  to get there and hopefully meet up for a cortado or cerveza.
