Hi

Has anyone made a transfer from UK to Santander bank in Spain? I’ve been trying to find out if, post Brexit, they are charging for this now, even though this shouldn’t be the case as the UK is still part of SEPA. I’ve contacted Santander but their reply was vague. They just pointed me to their  terms and conditions which isn’t very clear!

Thanks

Carol

Why not open just the App, or a new account with 'Wise, was 'TransferWise'??

You get the going rate and no hidden fees, just a very small admin fee. I've used it to transfer £-€ each month for last 4 years.

You can obtain a debit card, also pay D/D etc.   Used by many Expats abroad.

It’s the bank that are applying charges when they receive the money. It’s not the currency transfer  company. Their charges haven’t changed. This has started happening since Brexit but Santander haven’t confirmed either way if we’ll be charged. Not all banks are applying a charge.

I know, stuff the overcharging bank, you're throwing your money away. Only you can make that choice though, I can only advise you.

Thanks. As I can’t get a straight answer from the bank I’ll go to the branch when I’m in Spain next month. Maybe they will be more helpful than the Customer Service helpline!

If it is in the banks terms & conditions that you will be charged for receiving funds then that is what they will do.

No matter what you say or do !!

You only option is to get another bank account that does not charge for receiving funds.

Or dump the Spanish banking system altogether & open a Wise.com euro account.

You don't actually NEED a Spanish bank account these days.

I agree mostly what Roland has said but remember with the Wise account card you will pay for withdrawing cash from and ATM this is not Wise making the charge but the Bank whose ATM you are using.

Frequently the small shops such as the fruit and veg store, the market and buying a couple of beers, there profit margin is small enough without them paying a debit card fee.

If I ever need cash which is very rare I just use my Santander debit card in a Santander ATM in Spain.

Select the 'without dynamic conversion' button during the transaction.
