Hi,
Pauline has provided a lot of advice and information regarding the non resident bank account with cajamar which is very good and which I took.....find below an earlier post I sent about my experience of opening an account with cajamar in Santiago de la Ribera some two weeks ago.
.....cajamar bank in Santiago de la Ribera. I believe there’s 3 staff members, a woman and 2 men, I dealt with the younger man, he has fair hair and was sitting at the open desk at the back of the office, to the far right. He spoke enough English to understand me and to open the account for me (the other bank staff may also be able to speak English/help you, all I’m doing is sharing my personal experience). I asked if the account is free and he said yes (however I will have to wait until I see my statements to know for certain that we understood each other).
I brought with me my Passport, NIE certificate and proof of income (screenshots of the latter 2 on the iPad, he took photos of some and others I emailed to him in situ), if you are in receipt of a pension then that is what you need to bring with you, this was enough for him to open the account for me on the day.....I asked if he would set up my standing orders, he said he couldn’t and gave me the bank details to hand in to service providers but if you bring all of the so/dd details with you he might do it....but if he doesn’t it will only be a matter of going to your providers and showing them your new bank details.
Good luck with making the change.

Hi Anni
So pleased you did it, but here's a weird thing, someone on Costa Blanca Forum I recommended same, went last week and was told non residents couldn't have the weferrent account and agent tried to hard sell a standard account, so he left. I telephoned their customer service to be told, go into branch and "become a customer" with a customer no. then apply online with same number and yes open weferrent account. Sometimes the left doesn't know what the right is doing. Anyway he, s daunted by it all and decided to stick to Sabadell. This man needs to return to another branch or even same one and demand how he can get an account. Sounds like the first time he, s had to deal with awkward Spanish beaurocracy, God help him when he gets his residency and is a few years down the line. Nowt worthwhile ever comes easy! So my Dad said. Lol.
Regards
Pauline

It’s unfortunate that this person met with someone unwilling/unprepared or perhaps unable to open the weferrent account for him. If it were me I would go back to the bank or as you suggested another branch of cajamar with all of the paperwork required and ask again.
I know it’s daunting but please don’t give up at the first obstacle.
Go on give it another go......
