Hi. Recently bought a holiday home in Santiago. There’s no TV or Broadband. There’s a dish but it doesn’t work when connected to a TV box. Not sure whether to go down the TV via internet route or have a dish. Can anyone explain how the broadband works please. Is it always unlimited or do you pay for a set amount?  There’s currently no phone connection in the property, anyone know the cost of connection and what is the best company to use?

Thankss

Hi you should visit the Grupo TVHoradada (or maybe it's still called Teleast) shop in Los Alcazeras (just at the start of the run of shops and restaurants at the 525 hotel) where you will learn about their internet and TV options, they speak English which makes things easy.

Good luck with setting up your home..

Hi Gax

We did try Teleast but they had stopped providing British TV due to technical issues and didn’t know when or if they would start again. We ended up having a new dish installed and a free view box so don’t have any monthly subscriptions. It’s works fine for us as we’re not in Spain full time so use our phone data for internet access.

Thanks

Carol

Hi Carol could you tell me who you used for fitting the new dish and if you don`t mind how much did they charge you, as i already have a set top box so only need a new dish fitting.

Thanks Chris

This should be the last place you call at. It was grupo horadada, then Teleast, then for past year or so has been Avatel. Do not confuse them with Telecable or any others.

Their tv service has varied from barely adequate to abysmal (currently only has some of the promised channels, BBC1 only in sound, BBC2 showing BBC1, BBC News showing same as BBC2, no National Wild, amazingly does have ITV, ITV2, ITV3 (frequently absent..). During the lockdown they did a good job maintaining an internet service but as soon as the number of users has gone up performance has dived, and although at the moment there is the promised 7 Mbit/s at times yesterday (maybe the footie was on?) it read 0.15 Mbits/s! They have the least friendly shop staff I have ever met (and No, I do not go in ranting!) and just shrug their shoulders at complaints. I have filed a hoja de reclamaciones complaint once and after a long delay they refunded one month's subscription.

There are now alternatives, and I suggest you use one of them.

Update: speed at the moment: Download 1.83, Upload 0.99 ping and jitter both way over 100.
