car rental companies

I,m afraid I,ve had bad experiences with virtually all the companies over past 10yrs, Goldcar, Firefly, Interent and Ok, but have used Recordgo 3 times without any problems. I,m buying a car next visit as I,m sick of hastle when returning the vehicle and find stress of using a hired car too much. Do take yearly annual cover for the exess before your visit. For £40 approx year its a no brainer. I have used "Icarhire" insurance company for years and they,ve paid out five times promptly. Its invaluable, hope this is helpful

Fortunately I also used car insurance and in the process of being reimbursed.

My problem is at 74 years of age there is only a limited range of rental companies who will insure without a huge senior driver excess.

Yes Bill, my hubby is 75yrs, but I,m 69 this year which is why I hire car in my name adding his at the desk and never been charged an overhead for his age. I,m sure Record dont load up as we,ve hired in hubbys name too. I try for prices in my name then his to see differrent companies which charge more for older age group.

When you return the car make sure you get the paperwork stamped as "returned, no damage". They can't argue after that. 

I've hired with RecordGo the last couple of times and I had absolutely no issue with them everything from pick up to drop back went smoothly...always take photos and allow enough of time on return to have the car checked over and get the all clear....

They took over 1000 euros from me late last year after they told me just to post the keys in the letter box as they were busy. Found out later they had not refunded the deposit then they told me we had caused damage which was not true. After months of contacting etc I've still not got any refund from the damage refund Insurance I took out due to Gold car delaying responding again. Shocking company to deal with if there are issues - there has been newspaper articles about the same issue with many other customers. Stay away from them - the others at the airport I've used a number of times but of course everything is always okay until there is a problem!

I have been cheated by Goldcar in the past, 400 euro for a scratch to an alloy which I never did, wouldn't touch them with a bargepole any more. Was fortunate my annual excess policy paid out but was disgusted with Goldcars attitude throughout. don't think it is restricted to Goldcar but they seem the worst of a bad bunch. Some of the low prices quoted for car hire would indicate they fully intend to top it up by fair means or foul.

Goldcar tried same stunt on me but when I txt back to say I have before and after photos of the car never heard from them again😀
