Hi,

we have an area of ground which has a plastic membrane covered in small stones, unfortunately too many weeds grow and we want to change this to artificial grass.

Can anyone who has done this or similar please give us some advice, ideally we would leave the stones in place and add sand…..all suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

If you use the search box at the top of this page & search for artificial grass / Costa Calida there is lots of info.

We did this in our previous home and it took a lot more work than we originally planned on doing! If you leave the stones where they are, even if you cover them with sand, you'll still be able to feel them underfoot and they could eventually work their way to the top. My advice would be to clear the area, lay a good few inches of sand and then another membrane, some more sand, and then the turf. Make sure that if you lay more than one piece of turf, that you join the undersides together with the appropriate sticky tape otherwise the join between the two pieces will open up. There are lots of videos on Youtube to give you hints. Luckily in our new house, we had terraces all around and this made the laying of the turf a lot easier! Good luck.

Thanks for that Mags44….yes I agree it may be more work that I want to take on….I’ll get a few more quotes and see if we can get one that won’t break the bank.
