Hi

We are looking at buying a property in Santiago De La Ribera but have been spooked by the floods they have had in the area. Is  the area susceptible to flooding and is it all of Santiago de la ribera or certain parts. Thanks in advance

Here is a map where you can zoom in:

Areas which could be flooded:

Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (Zonas Inundables)

The flooding was because of a specific weather formation that hit costa cálida Santiago was not hit as bad as the towns round it and some places not at all we do not live in Santiago we live in lost  alcazares that suffered badly not where we live but central town was similar to the rest of the coast, no where for water to go but though not good it is still one of the nice places to live on the coast and you will enjoy your life here like we have for the past 20 years

Hi Pip1968

It’s really hard to say if la Ribera is susceptible to flooding but it certainly received its fair share of rain in September 2019 and like lots of neighbouring areas it was impossible for some people to avoid damage......we didn’t get flooded but neighbours on one side with an underground garage did.
La Ribera is flat which is one of its charms but when it rains it’s a challenge.

I hope your estate agent will be able to do some background checks for you about the area where you are considering buying.....

If weather conditions conspire again and we have similar rainfall there’s no guarantee that it will flow through the town along the same route again as some work is supposed to have taken place to mitigate the damage experienced in 2016/19...

If you go ahead with your purchase my advice is to purchase good insurance that will cover any flood damage but fingers crossed we won’t see that again for many many years.

I will look to see if I still have a video of the rain fall/flow in our area and I’ll try to post it here.

Any other queries just ask.
