Good morning all.

Looking for honest feedback regarding the installation of swimming pools.

We have had quotes from EPM, Simply Pools Spain, Ocean Pools, and also a local Spanish builder, not a huge amount of difference in the quotes price wise (except the Spanish builder who is quite a bit cheaper), obviously we want to go with the best for quality & reliability, so if anyone has used any of these companies I would welcome your feedback on the following please:

Time taken from first application to completion (and was there a huge difference in what you were told initially)

Was an architect involved in the project, and did they apply for permissions etc from Town Hall, if so, what were the costs involved?

Did the builders always turn up when they said they would?

Did the finished article meet with your expectations? Were you happy with the quality of job/finish?

Any issued afterwards?

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Kim

Hi Kimbo,

I didn’t reply initially as I thought someone may have been able to answer your specific query.

We had a swimming pool installed but not by any of the companies you got quotes from so can’t help re recommendation.
Our pool was installed as part of a bigger reform job and yes we had an architect draw up our plan and oversee the process, inclusive of making contact with the Town Hall and doing the necessary paperwork. I can’t remember the exact cost of the paperwork required for the Town Hall but am pretty sure it wasn’t more than €200, having the pool increases your annual IBI, ours was only by €28.  The pool was built within 8 weeks.

We weren’t in situ all of the time so I can’t honestly say that the builders turned up on time each day, however when we were there they did and the work was finished within the timeframe given at the outset.

We are very happy with our pool and some 5 years later have had no issue with the pool per say. Per say because with the floods in 2016/19 the pool pump flooded and we had to replace it, so make sure you talk to whoever fits your pool about raising the pump or sealing the housing so it doesn’t flood. On occasion I’ve wondered if we should have had a heated pool fitted. I associate using an outdoor swimming pool with being able to sit around it and enjoy the warm weather.....if I want to swim in November then I’ll find a heated indoor pool.....so happy with our decision.

Anything else I can with just ask...

Hi Anni

Many thanks for your response. Can you tell me which company installed your pool please?

Thanks

Of course Kim, it was Piscinas La Zenia, they are situated along the N332 in San Pedro del Pinatar.....

The only other thing you may want to consider is the type of pool covering, ours is a loose cover we store in an outside storage room when removed....maybe it would have been better to get one that can be rolled over the pool when not in use.....but I suppose that depends on the space you have around the pool and how you want to use it....

Also anni

Have you considered a solar pump these are 12v and run off a couple of solar panels they vary in price but ball park I think around €1200 for a good one and would pay for it’s self after first 6mths to a year in electricity savings 👍👌

Hi Ray,

Our 4x8 mtr pool was €12k back in 2016, they provided a selection of pool tiles for us to choose from......more recently I’ve seen pools lined in the same tile as the surrounding patio area which is very nice and gives a feeling of space.

Ray I’m not a lover of the look of solar panels but thanks for the heads up about possible use for heating the pool....

Thanks anni that’s very inter in comparison what have you kimbo been quoted I ask somebody else and they said five years ago about €10000 and now about €20000 but that seems like a massive ike in five years in relation to solar panels you only need two three at most that will run you pool pump from sun up to sun down seven days a week filter all the water in you pool two to three times a day if no more depending on pump and the can be put out the way on top of gazebos pool shower installation etc etc x

We had pool installed by Mendez of Mazarron.  Excellent work, no probs, would recommend. Also Padilla in Puerto de mazarron. Both long established Spanish firms at reasonable prices. Beware the cowboys
