Winter in Santiago de la Ribera
I am thinking of buying an apartment in the area. Concerned though that restaurants and shops close during the winter months and the place is dead.

We have recently bought and due to move over in Feb. My understanding is, like most coastal towns, that it does indeed get much quieter as there are limited/no tourists. However although some beach bars and some other restaurants down on the front close there are still ample open. These also, I am led to believe, are predominately Spanish owned and frequented. This should not be off putting as, if like us, you are moving to their country supporting these establishments is part of the fun/challenge. I’m hoping it helps us improve on our Spanish too.
Also - There are many shops (varied types) that will operate as normal all year round.
hope this helps.

Hi Many places to go.
Please remember it is a lived in town, bars restaurants will always be open, may close for a day off.
But more importantly, you will find the banks, supermarkets, chemists, medical centre, and library open.
Today when I went for a walk to the beach there were many people sunbathing and a couple in the water (must be brits lol)
Check it out, depending what you want it has many thingd going for it.
Regards
Ed

Yeah that makes good sense. We cannot wait for February to come around as we love the town and surrounding area. Hope it ticks all your boxes too 👍.

Have lived in many places in Spain over the past 20 odd years through business and of course pleasure.
Bought the property in Santiago in 2015 as a holiday home as main house was in Murcia city, but live here permanent.
As I say has everything one could need also only 5 mins walk to the beach/

We find that out of season restaurants offer better food and service than during the season when they are rushed.

The library is in the centre civico above the information centre and parque pronciple restaurant. I don't know about the English books but the info centre has the free English newspapers each week.

We have a holiday home in SAN PEDRO del Pinatar area I totally agree the service and food is much better of season we always try to support local businesses and those that are open all year.
