Maybe I’m missing something but how does anyone know how long you are in or out of the country?

Sean they are already scanning passports at all borders and recording as Brexit was expected last year, so although FOM is still ok this year the authorities are well prepared. Of course if you never cross a border then no recordings but may be in trouble with tax authorities as they will have evidence you are a tax resident even if you havent applied for residencia.??

Regards

Pauline.

Renting is an option that shouldnt be taken lightly , I am in a similar position and I think I would only rent if it was to someone I knew and could rely on ,  but to avoid any hassle I think I`ll just sell up, downsize and buy a place in Spain

I said "Don't forget that any asset including a house worth over 50,000 Euros.."

I should have said " any asset outside Spain"

Hi Peter, not sure if last msg was meant for Fran or myself but I,m aware we are asset rich as far as spanish tax is concerned but I cant get my house sold by December and keeping on rental for income, our  savings dont earn much so either can hide in mattress😉😉 or declare for tax.

Its pathetic really, I just want to be there in the summer months and dont feel we can get the best weather without going the 3months either side. Mar-Jun, Sep-Dec, and that means missing out the middle months.

C'est la vie

Pauline.

Sean you will be shortly and the passport machines have been in Alicante for over a year. I,m sure all spanish airports will be the same. If you have an Irish passport you will still have FOM. Of course if you,re resident it wont apply anyway.

Passengers at Alicante boarding UK-bound AND ROI-bound flights now go through extra e-passport readers.

The ROI gets caught up in this because of FOM between UK and ROI.

Hi. We sold our house and bought a couple of flats that we went out through agents. No problems up to now and we don't  have to worry about the state of the garden, creosoting fences or leaking pipes outside. It works for us.Good luck
