I applied for residence last October but as yet i have only received a recibo de presentacion en oficina de registro which was not accepted to travel from UK to Spain, I check every week and the update is Still Pending.

Although i haqve owned an holiday home for many years we are now going to spend in excess of 90 days hence applying.

My main problem is i have a valid UK driving licence and i am hoping to get back to Spain late June early July, I am in the middle of taking a motorbike test and hope to pass before coming out.

Does anyone know what the situation is for exchanging to a Spainish or keeping my UK licence if after the end of June.

I have been trying to get answers in the UK but all i keep getting is still in negotiation.

I cant believe that Spain would risk house sales and residents from UK by making driving licence issues, i have been told that they expect you to retake your test and this would have to include a minimum of 6 x lessons first, it as just cost nearly £1000  to get a bike licence and therefore if that is the case it would cost me more than that if this is the case.

Would really appreciate any help on this.

Many Thanks

Well they have taken that risk for many years with all the other foreign citizens - that is non-EU.

Many years ago I went to a paella cooking course in Andalucia, run by two Americans. They both had had to take a spanish driving course and test to become legal drivers, a USA licence not being exchangable.

Remember that Spain was not responsible for Brexit, only the idiot Brits!

From the info I got, the current British licence with the EU flag is valid for now. But if you become resident in Spain, you will need to change it.

That seems right as my wife and I have our licences at the DGT now and have just been told that pending possible changes due to Brexit all licences swaps are being held for the time being.  Once residency has been confirmed things will change for us again. So in limbo currently and we are going to get our licences back so that we have them until these things are completed.
