hi,

i need reliable info on savings and tax in spain,

if i retired at 55 , bought property in spain, would i be taxed on savings ,

ie  if i drip fed saball acc which states  700e a  deposits per month  to avoid charges

if i used transferwise , , from, say, ybs in uk, to saball acc  would this be classed

as income , bearing in mind, if i need residency i need to convince im self sufficient

also if i transferred 50000 plus into same account, again would i be taxed, im not referring to

tax on interest,

how do you all do your banking ?

I could have written this myself as I'm in the same situation. I have done a little research and sabadell appears a popular account with no fees if you open an expansion account depositing 700 euro minimum per month. I am under the impression you are taxed on interest only. I have also set up an account with transferwise but have been recommended ifx for large transfers. I will be following this post as I'm sure there are lots that will give great advise to us newbies.

This is interesting as my husband was 65 in July, we currently have a Banco Sabodell account but was not aware of free for pensioners only for people paying €700 per month

Be careful about making a large transfer.  We were charged €582 when we transferred total amount to pay for our villa. The receiving bank made the charge and our lawyer passed the charge on to us.  Check max amount you can transfer to receiving bank without incurring charges.

Forgot to mention, we bank with Bankia and as long as we keep a balance of 5000 in the account we don’t pay any fees
