Hi

Can anyone tell me if the persistent problem with flies on Hacienda Requelmie and in the Sucins has got any better recently

We had a meal at a resturaunt there in August and while eating outside they were really bad

Regards

Jon

HI Jon,

There is a previous thread on this in the forum where it was discussed at length, it may be of some use.

We were there in September and it wasn't too bad.

IMO the rubbish and litter is the biggest problem, but take a look at the other thread to see other opinions

Hi Jon

I posted throughout the summer when we were invaded the whole time! I am in the u.k at the moment some respite thank goodness but my husband has told me there were loads the past few days. Don’t know why.. we were told they disappear in winter but I think that was just wishful thinking. We are at the end of our tether but have been told to approach the Mayor who should be addressing this problem. If the farmers were to spray the crops this might help. Also the fertiliser plant in Sucina does not help the situation! When I get back to Sucina I will try and get something on the go hopefully with help from the locals to instruct the Mayor that something must be urgently done to resolve the problem.

Hi

Thanks for that, yes i did read those items but wondered wether it had improved

I must say that Hacienda Requelmie does seem very clean but the amount of flies outside the resturaunt there was ridiculous and is certainly one of the reasons putting us off buying there

Hi myself and Family were there in August we also had bad  experience with flies while eaten. We were there middle October and had no problem what so ever same in the April. Most Countries will see a increase in flies in Summer I agree the the farmers need to address this totally. But disagree with Rubbish as the Hacienda has always been free from rubbish and Complex is well looked after.

Flies are one of the problems of living in a hot country and southern Spain is no exception. They do tend to arrive in swarms, plagued for a couple of weeks then they seem to abate slightly before coming back again. We find farmers do spray regularly but keeping on top of the situation is impossible. When eating out be particular where you sit and, if possible, keep away from sitting under or near trees, for some reason canopies don’t seem to attract the same as vegetation. Many Spaniards carry fly swats or fans and you soon get used to eating with one hand and swatting with the other.

Hi, just a quick comment on this issue, yes the flies were particularly bad this year, but Sucina and Riquelme were not the only places where the level of activity was heightened. I have been told it was due to the weather changes earlier in the year that we experienced more, and that it certainly wasn't like this last year.

There were also copious amounts of wasps, again more than had previously been seen. However now, you would be hard pushed to find one fly or wasp!!! (I have been here all year) And on the bright side there were hardly any mosquitoes it seemed! I

I think I have just put it down to experience, nature doing it's thing and we will have to wait and see what happens next year!

Hi Kaz

Love your optimistic outlook! however have to disagree that flies are gone. Couldn’t get out my back door a couple of days ago as the flies were clinging to the door in abundance. Surely it isn’t just us with the problem. We are spotlessly clean and no reason for us to be targeted so much! However I agree that I haven’t been bitten so much this year by the mossies...do the flies eat them I wonder, Think I would have preferred  mossies to the flies this year though. We just moved to Sucina in May and haven’t had a very good experience up to now I am afraid. Still I am optimistic too and will see what happens!

I find with the flies if people cleaned up their cat and dog mess at their homes pavements and parks also with the empty houses try to help keep them cleaner that would help massively

I do agree empty houses should be better cared for, overgrown gardens, bird mess, rotting vegetation, cat mess etc are all invitations to flies. In response to another reply Brits love to be told “”It is the worst......”, “It is the best......” etc flies are a problem every year this year was no exception. I do agree there hasn’t been as many mozzies!!
