I'm new to spain.  How does one deal with the electric water heater.  Do you leave it on 24/7 or do some people turn it on and off to suit??

What suggestions has anybody got please. 2 bed apartment normally just 2 old codgers at home.

and what would be a suitable water temperature??

Thanks in advance

David

I have my electric water heater on a timer.

Mainly so that I can take advantage of cheap rate electric.

It very much depends on the sort of water heater that you have. Many will have timers, so you can have it heating for a couple of hours a day, around the times when you will be most likely to need hot water; some can be set to heat at 'off peak' times to take advantage of cheaper electricity tariffs (if that is how your electricity account / product is set up).

The very important thing is that the temperature setting must not be lower than 60'C for storage and not lower than 50'C when delivered, to minimise the risk of Legionnaire's disease.

If you've just moved in to a property, hopefully the previous occupiers have left the manual for the water heater - if not, you can probably search for a copy of the manual online via the manufacturer's website and download a version.

Hope this helps!

Yes it is a plug in timer.

Just a very basic one.

Personally I leave ours on all The time. One of the biggest charge is to keep heating from cold on a regular basis, where as it only tops up the heat occasionally or after a shower etc. plus you have hot water all the time . This is based on a new heater not a old inefficient old unit.

"electric water heater" could be direct electric heating or a heat pump.

Worth checking exactly what you have.

Its a fix to the wall type electric storage heater for want of a better word.  Cointra model.  Plug it in 24/7 when im there but wondering if it should just be on for a couple of hours morning and evening.

Thanks

My suggestion  would be put on a timer say couple hrs on a morning couple hrs on a night see if that works for you .as we all know we are all different  the main thing is it works for you and what you require..
