Hi All,

We are buying a property in Sucina and have been there a couple of times to look around.  I was wondering if the problems with flies as posted back in 2017 are still a problem ? And also if it smells like Dung and if so is it just a certain time of year ?.

We have paid a deposit on a new build and are due to pay the next instalment, after joining this forum today I am wondering wether this could be a mistake.  I hope not !!

Also about the dog mess and vandalism I didn't expect this coming to Spain as much as in UK although I have been to areas that I have seen graffiti etc.

I thought Sucina seemed like a nice Village feel and didn't get the smell of dung or the flies but then I only spent a   day and a bit there.

Please can anyone who lives there put me right on the above.  I also have a dog but always clean up after her.

Many Thanks

Hi we have an apartment on Hacienda Requilme just down the Road from Sucina Village. We use this as a Holiday Home only, but normally try and get over different months of the year.We found the Month of July tends to be worse but only had apartment around 3 years but before that often rented.A couple years ago the flies seemed really bad but other times found no worse than any where else I have travelled.Cannot Comment about Sucina for Dog Mess but have experienced many time where Spanish will walk there Dog and think it Acceptable to not clean up they have no shame.I have sat many time down Alcarcares eaten meal and they have allowed their dogs to do Buisness right beside your Table

Thank you for your message,  I would hope that in villages people would want their area to be a nice clean place to live. I would be fuming if that happened to me !!

Flies and mozzies are generally more abundant world-wide throughout summer.  Just like they are in the UK!  Having recently moved to Sucina I can honestly say we didn't have any great number of flies or mozzies at all.  In fact, we were surprised that apart from one single day when we had a gang of 4 trying to mug us for lunch, it was usually just the odd pest like in UK.  A quick swat and problem solved :-))

Yes, they do fertalize the surrounding fields.  Perhaps a couple of times a week. But thoughtfully 90% of time it's at night.  The smell is a bit porky but not repugant,  and only lasts for about 1/2 hour before dissapating into sky.  In fact, after only a few weeks here we hardly even notice.  I also like knowing the crops are being naturally fed rather than having tons of chemicals sprayed on them - then spreading into the air we breath.  Although I might feel different if the smell was foul and lasted for hours (just call me fickle!)

I cannot speak for other residents but all our neighbours have been here, very happily, for years and don't have plans for going anywhere else soon.  Our sellers had been here 12 yrs too.

Hope that helps.  Very good luck with your buying and moving.   Annie.

Riquelme, la torre, sucina, Roldan etc are all in the middle of farmland. So you get bugs a lot of the year round.

We stayed on Riquelme (very near sucina) last year and early this. Couldn’t sit outside last aug/sept because of huge moths - wingspan the size of jumbos.....

We discounted buying there for that reason. Lots of posts online about it.

Huge Moths!!

Now I've heard it all. We have had an apartment on H Riquelme for 12 years and lived here for 3. Never ever seen a huge moth, not even once, how bizarre.

Sucina has fabulous dog walks where they can run off lead and chase rabbits - doggie heaven! I did lots of research before choosing this village and have been here for 4 years. Unfortunately, the Spanish people don't usually pick up dog poo, but that's not just in Sucina. Ideal village for dog owners.

Google it, it’s not just me that experienced it.
