Hi Rita47, are you a non resident pensioner? I,m with Sabadell, non resident and tried to get their charges of 35€ quarter reduced to the new basic bank account for 3€ per month as informed on many websites recently as a new reduced charge bank account all banks must now offer. They refused saying there was no proof of our paying in pensions or a tax declaration showing pension income. Obviously as non residents we dont pay Spanish tax and dont pay in pensions(which we need to live on in UK) every month, so how did you get your account free as a non resident?

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Paulsav, we have a direct debit of 750 euros paid into Sabadell Bank as a pension  so we don’t pay charges, we had to fill forms in

Thats normal with Sabadell, 700€ mnth deposit and fee free, but we dont want the hastle of sending money and getting it back to live on. It really is disgusting to charge non residents such a high fee when theres a lot less transactions than residents do. I will be changing banks shortly

Regards

Pauline.

I use Transferwise for all my Spanish direct debits now.

Easy to set up & it works well.

I closed my fee charging Spanish bank & opened a Cajamar Wefferent account which has no fees at all as long

as you use it within their terms.

i.e Don't make any transactions in the branch do everything online or via the cash machine.

You get a debit card with the Wefferent account.

As far as I am aware there is no law that says you have to have a Spanish bank account HOWEVER I thought it might be sensible to keep a Spanish mainstream bank account.

Always best to keep your options open.

I  only keep around 200 euro in the account & try & use the card etc once a month or so.

Have a read of this thread on here Paulsav has some good tips re Cajamar account.

Hi Roland

Please can you tell me if you can get a bank account with transferwise with Spanish IBAN and if you do, what is the process to apply for.

You mentioned in the post that all your Spanish direct debit is it with transferwise, is it possible to set up a direct debit with Spanish company like: iberdrola, aqua Murcia (emuasa) and community charges and did they accepted, because i heard stories that they only accept Spanish bank accounts.

Please can you tell me your experience with transferwise regarding this matter.

Thanks in advance

Marcel
