Hello I am a 71 year old single lady thinking of spending a few months a year in Spain to enjoy the sunshine and wondered whether I'd be able to join in with the expat community.  Are there other single ladies living out there?  I'm very sociable and I'm a huge ManU fan and like to watch the matches.  I love music and theatre and like to take part in whatever's happening in the community a volunteer.  I'm also wondering what type of accommodation might be available for say approximately 3 months. I expect I would need to hire a car - is that expensive?  I have been to the area a couple of times on holiday quite some years back and loved it.  I've been used to expat living in the past and think I would enjoy a whole new experience now that I'm retired,. Grateful for any useful feed back.  Thank you very much.  Karen

Hi Karen, I may be able to help you out on the accomodation front, I have a 2 bedroom apartment in the lovely village of Sucina very secure on the 1st floor, with very nice English neighbours. There is access to a fantastic communal pool complex and all the well served English shops and restaurants are directly below. The apartments are seurity accessed and there is also a lift system in the building. The flat itself is fully furnished with everything in place in both the kitchen and bedrooms.

The rent we can negotiate, especially if you are looking to take care of the place whist you are there. The village square and church are only a short walk away.

Let me know if its of interest. Alison

Hello Karen

The apartment you have been offered is in a great location.

I have a house in Sucina and when I am there, my most important venue is the Franc Louise Bar just down the road from those apartments. Nearly all the Man U games are shown on the multiple tvs there. See you there LOL  BOB

I am a single lady living above Lo Marios restaurant. The place is very safe and there are a few single people living here. I have been here since 2009 and never once have felt unsafe, which I did on the urbanisation.

The rents here vary from 275 to 350 a month and Andy in square does rent some owners flats here. You will need a car but some people in our building will give you a lift or take you out. Mostly renters, not owners, live here. There is a bus service to Murcia weekdays at 9.55 returning 1 and 5. Great city, old centre very walkable. I go fairly regularly there. I also go to a gym/spa 20 mins away 3/5 days a week so could drop you and pick you up.

There are 2 supermarkets with butchers, 3 independent bakers and a butcher, a Chinese cheap market, a tobacco/gift shop, an ironmongers, a chemist, 2 banks, a hairdresser, 2 clothes shops, a fabulous food takeaway, an icecream/cake shop, and 9 bars/restaurants. All these within 5 minutes walk.

Eating out in Sucina very cheap with menu del dia at Lo Marios or 7.95 and Rosarios for 9 for 3 courses with drink and coffee. Breakfast at Marios for 2.95 euro so you wont need to do much cooking.

The Spanish here are very friendly and helpful, especially if you know a little Spanish, and I feel quite integrated here. With the Spanish we have ladies outings and dinners, and with the pensioners from Civic Centre bus trips. The cost of joining these groups is minimal.

Dear Alison

Thank you very much for your message and I apologize for the delay in replying but have been busy with visitors over the bank holiday.  Your apartment sounds lovely and is exactly what I am looking for and in the area I would like to stay.  As I have a cruise booked for November and Christmas and New Year commitments I am thinking of having a trial stay in the early part of the New Year.  If your apartment is free would you be willing to rent it to me for a month just so I can get a feel for the area?

Many thanks

Karen

Hi Bob

Many thanks for this useful information glad to know that there is somewhere to be able to watch ManU.  Hope to see you there sometime in the New Year.

Hello (sorry don't know your name)

Thank you very much for getting in touch and for all the really useful information. It really does sound a lovely area and exactly the type of place I would enjoy.  I'm thinking of renting something for a month's trial in the early months of the New Year as I have a number of commitments taking me up to Christmas.  Once I've made my plans to come over it would be very nice to meet you.

Bye for now

Karen

A word of advice now I know you thinking of January. It can be quite cold from 4/5pm in Jan-Mar, so make sure your rental provides some form of heating, and winter bedding. It is however normally around 16 plus degs. during the day when sun is out. Temps can lower to 0 up to 12 degs at night. Also important to find a flat which has sun during the day in winter. My name is June. Some of the restaurants/bars take a holiday in January too for a couple of weeks, but there is still plenty of choice here.

Hi June

Many thanks for this info. I will probably plan to come out there February/March and hopefully it will be slightly warmer by then, but should certainly be better than the UK.

Regards Karen
