Hi all

We own on La Torre and I am an experienced driver in the uk but am a tad scared on the Spanish roads so would like a few lessons!  Can anyone recommend a friendly professional company who could give me a set of lessons? Many thanks!

Hola  all roundabouts in Spaiñ    are the same     but who has right of way   very good question    not even the Spanish  know or what lane

junctions      with out  markings     are on a first come first  right of way   so in built up areas   keep your eyes open

one big tip    if you have a right hand drive    keep in the middle  of the road       right hand  sorry but in the gutter  (if there is one)

If you own a Spanish car     buy  second hand   (dents already done)       just drive and take your time    one day you will get used to it

plus the roads  are very  quiet  compared  to the   UK       honking of horns  are normal   here   so just wave back   (do not get upset)

over here one way is "sort of advisory"  more so on housing estates        so just relax    one day at a time

become Spanish and park where you like      Ho! speeding   as I say  take your time    (fines are far less then the UK)

When you get home  have a stiff drink      think of the poor person who fits indicators in a factory   who does a very pointless job

This is a serious subject and the OP wanted advice, not a flippant comment on how so many British people drive in Spain. To be honest, following your "advice" would scare me more than starting to take driving lessons for the very first time. And to top it all, you forgot the most important thing. Always give way to the left! It's not a "free-for-all, first-come first served", as you seem to imagine. Maybe you should brush up on the Spanish Highway Code yourself!

Just a point on roundabouts . On a roundabout keep to the outside lain and keep indicating as you go round , if someone on the inside lain wants to exit they should pull in behind you  to take their exit , and yes I have seen cars cut across other card on the outside laine but from a legal point they are at fault .

Excellent post and so true in what you say, as an experienced driver for over 50+ years and having the privilege of driving in countries throughout the world, I also considered the remarks made by "dave sierra golf" very worrying. It seems that he is implying that basically do what you want on the roads.

Sibohan, the Op asked for  a friendly professional company not a lot of misguided twaddle.

As for his very constructive comment to your post "go away" I hope that Sibohan realises what he says is, it seems through complete disregard for the competent and law abiding drivers.

This is wrong!

Read the Spanish highway code as that rule changed a few years ago.

Guys, this is not the Spanish law as it applies to round abouts,  up to 180 you stick to the outside lane, if you are going beyond 180, you need to go to the inside lane, then for 270 and more switch to the outside lane to exit. If you can't switch safely, you are required to go around again!!
